fantastic OP.
I don't care to rank them, they're all amazing and different and I'd be super bummed to not have seen all of them.
I understand why u left band of brothers off the list since its a mini series but it without question one of the GOAT pieces of art ever made.

also, ima HUGE fan of breaking bad but iggy is making some very good posts.
also he's obv spot on wrt the sopranos, the only problem was there were def stretches of the sopranos that were mediocre and boarder line hard to sit thru, whereas with BB the ride was incredible from start to finish.

Everything that Iggy said made perfect sense. The only question is how much should what he said matter to you when you're watching the show? I think only a little (and I think most agree), he thinks a lot.

How come no one has mentioned Band of Brothers (and maybe + The Pacific).

Is it because we don't consider it a TV show cause it was a mini-series? Do people not think it's on the same level as BB, The Wire, Sopranos, etc. ?

I thought Band of Brothers was amazing. And The Pacific (even though it wasn't quite as good as Band of Brothers) wasn't far behind.

Personally, I consider Band of Brothers and The Pacific a two season TV show. And for me, it's below Breaking Bad, but above The Wire in terms of GOAT TV shows.

I guess that because it was a mini-series... people don't consider it a TV show or a movie, and therefore doesn't really fit into a category and can't be compared to anything else.

If Friday Night Lights, Lost, and GoT are on this list, I'd argueJustified should be up there as well. I truly think it will go down as a top 5 drama of all time once it's over. I'd already put it above everything I just mentioned, along with West Wing (although I understand peoples love for it, I cannot stand Sorkins writing), The Shield, and Deadwood (watched most of the first season and just couldn't get into it, which is weird considering the content of this post, I know).

Justified possibly a top 5 drama of all time?

if Justified is going on the list... than 24 should be on the list too.

Justified is certainly on a level with FNL, Lost, and GoT.

(Between you and me though, The Shield is better (or to be honest/more specific "more enjoyable") than The Wire - which wouldn't make my top 5 - but still not good enough to claim the title, AINEC). TV industry has provided us with a few very very good shows this last decade, so tough competition for the #1 title.

Edit - Speaking of TV Shows that should get more love, Boardwalk Empire ?

I'd argue for Luck as its one and only season was as good as anything that ever aired. Had it stuck around it would have been a contender.

People have a terrible problem discussing grey areas. Like, of course quality of art is subjective, it's just not completely subjective.

Justified is significantly better then 24. It's better than Lost, too, imo.

Luck was pretty good, but it was a slow burn. They had issues with pacing in that series I think.

Deadwood is one of those shows that would have been up there if not for the time pressure of HBO and huge drop in quality between S02 and S03, though of course that's relative. (S03 would still cream most TV shows best seasons.) Numerous characters completely changed their motivations, in a puzzling way. Seth Bullock went from becoming a practical hero to really being incredibly stupid and ineffective, a danger to Deadwood. While Al Swearengen went from this this morally ambiguous if awesome character to being the most best, most moral protector of Deadwood. And Anna Gunn had her talents wasted forced to literally not act as Seth's newly returned wife. I remember those things most clearly as the indictments of a flawed season.

At what point should I start considering the possibility that TW>>BB? Like what season, I'm still halfway through S1

Right now my mindset is:
BB Pilot >>> TW S1 E 1-5

I understand they are completely different shows, I'm just basing the above on pure enjoyment

end of season 3 , by the end of season 4 you'll understand why everyone says its the GOAT.
