I've been watching this show still and I still find it entertaining. In my opinion this season has had some uninteresting "character moments" however it's starting to pick up steam as I assume the season is nearing it's end.
The human trafficking story-line it appears has found it's paydirt. I'm not a fan of using such a serious issue as simply a means to an end in order to get the lead character to "break". I would rather focus more on Paige with regards to that story-line. I think her dealing with the emotional issue of trying to rationalizing leaving that place open is more interesting, than just throwing Mike into a hellish place to move his character along even further into being "dark".
I'm probably in the minority but I enjoyed the Jakes story-line and I think the Johnny story-line though clumsy is interesting enough. Johnny didn't go undercover too much in the first season and he is always the friendly one or seeking approval, so I think it was smart to get him smitten with a female while undercover.
I'm not sure what they're doing with Charlie, it's getting tiresome seeing her always feeling guilty. If she's supposed to be back on the sauce, then I think things could get interesting. I still enjoy her scenes as I think she's charismatic. The new bank heist partner is a smokeshow too.
Briggs continues to GOAT it up with regards to dropping one-liners and just always appearing effortless. I think his character moments are fine enough. He's probably the most realized character in the show as far as backstory goes, so the stuff with him is easy to go along with.
It's clear the focus of this season is to show of the job these characters do complicates their lives. I think some story-lines have just been handled better than others. The show is hitting on some heavy subjects and I feel like it's at times distasteful to treat some of these things with "kiddie gloves" so to speak. My only other complaint would be that this season almost feels like a bunch of separate story-lines. I wish there were more moments of the entire team together as a unit.
Regardless, I'm still enjoying the show and I'm shamefully hooked probably for the duration of it's run on USA. I've definitely cooled on my appreciation for the show this season though.
I totally dig this show. I think it's the best of USA's shows currently running. Or at least #2 behind Covert Affairs. All of these shows are simple and fun, so they don't require much. Just good ol' summer viewing.
I like how they gave everyone their own arcs, then cross them with each other from time to time. It makes the episodes fly by since there isn't all that much down time. But it does seem like they might've bit off more then they can chew. Next week is the mid-season finale, and it's clear where they're going with some things, but there are a lot of surprises that can pop up. The one thing I'm not too big a fan of is the cassette tape thing. It wasn't really needed, and more because of how it will be dealt with. Briggs isn't going to jail, and he's not getting killed. So, it's just an obstacle with no real consequences. If it was more of a 1-on-1, I'd have been okay with it. But an entire division? Nah, too much.
I was kind of worried in parts of the finale. The pregnancy thing ending up being not hers, and how they'd deal with the tape.
But they did well with that to keep the show going with Briggs. That was pretty smart, if in fact someone is using it against him. Don't know it would be, but it could be decent.
Of course cliff hangover. Any chance they could really kill him? I'm guessing no since he's one of the leads but I think it be interesting if they did. I don't know if this gets renewed but maybe since I'm pretty sure both new shows are doing worse.
Of course they won't kill him, and it really pisses me off when shows do that. There were so many interesting ways they could've gone with most of the arcs, and I'm not too big a fan of how they handled most of them.
If they do kill him, then major kudos. But, I seriously doubt it.
I thought Paige ratting out Mike was one of the stupidest things they could have done. Really? Mike burns a dead girls body to keep his project going so Paige who works for the FBI will have Mike killed? Just stupid.
