They maybe trying to copy the 'Dark Decco' style of Batman: The Animated Series. In any case it works for me.

This is a ridiculous argument, that isn't a subject of debate anywhere outside this thread. This has all been established for 50 years. You might as well claim Gotham is based on Baltimore.

That's fine. New York has both good and bad sections.

I knew this. (about Detroit, anyway). What I'm saying is that the socioeconomic reality has far shifted away from this.

Again, the point isn't whether or not it's based in New York. The point is that Gotham is so backwards and poor (and corrupt), by the standards the universe sets, it might as well be equivalent to Mexico City. It is the DC-verse's third world.

I would like to live in a city like Gotham, it's really nice with that wet and cloudy environment.

This was funny

"The bodies will drop you know..."

"EXPLAIN HOW!!"

I also got the feeling that Gotham was set in like the 60s or 70s but the technology was way ahead of its time, and I'm perfectly ok with that given its a fictional city in a fictional Universe. Ya'll didn't have a problem with Star Wars...

I loved that episode minus the awkward attempt at the girl on girl scene, such not great acting.

I know this is TV, but first thing I do as a cop in that situation is shoot the balloon at first sight - then look for the guy.

hated the camera work when gordon was holding onto the balloon man too, they made it seem like he was way up high, then after the balloon gets shot he falls about five feet onto the top of the van

I liked most of that episode, but the arrest scene was just so bad (when they went to the apartment). Some of the action scenes were very subpar for TV. I'd put most of the onus for the failures on the editing, but sometimes directors make bad decisions in editing, so it might not be on the editor.

Jada should be doing much better in this part, hopefully she will stop reading lines like this is Shakespeare. I've never seen her act this way before.

Same with the climax. If Gordon is just going to yell at his partner to shoot the balloon after he grabs the guys legs, why not just shoot the balloon himself?

True I missed that. I get the point that his partner was just going to let him float away, but was forced to shoot it when Jim grabbed on, but yea why not Gordon just shooting it himself is strange

Watched 1st Ep of this in the UK tonight lol EU etc

Pretty damn good enjoy Bullock and Gordons characters as actors in general so will stick around to see how it goes. Thought I was gonna have to be a huge batman fan to get most of the references but think I picked up on most as it was almost fed to me through the writing which is a good thing for casual fans like myself.

I think the show would work so much better if Bruce was a little older, maybe a teenager. As it is, it's just not at all believable they would include him in discussions about such gruesome things to this extent. There is no way any sane adult would treat him the way Jim and Alfred are treating him. At this point I think the show would be better without him in the picture at all, they are just spending so many minutes on stuff that's not going to matter for a long long time. Maybe introduce him in the pilot and forget about him for a couple of seasons, or something? I get that they want to focus on his journey to become Batman, but they aren't doing a very good job of it and it's annoying because it's taking focus away from the cop show that's happening with the other characters.

I've really liked all the scenes with Edward Nygma. Just like with Penguin, they've managed to strike a great balance between cartoony and realistic there, which I think is the show's biggest hurdle right now. Jim's partner and especially Fish are just so far in the cartoony end it's really tough to watch. It's literally bad enough it makes me pause the episode to write about it here, which is pretty telling. I've also hated every single scene with Jim's wife and I'm sure that's a trend that will continue, but I guess that's the norm. Batista is a terrible Maroni, I liked the other mafia characters though and Falconi is great. This new killer was a great actor, but you sort of wonder why a hitman who goes to such lengths to hide his identity would leave a signature on every single victim of his or why he would announce he is going to kill the target even after being caught by the police when they are pointing a freaking gun at him. He was described as very professional and not at all insane, so it's really just an example among many of the writers being either very lazy or not very good. The plot takes shortcuts like that all the time, and overexplains many things, but I'm glad they at least eased up on the cliffhangers in this episode. I like the setting and the general feel, but man this would have the potential to be so much better. It's still probably my favorite show that's airing until Hannibal returns, but it feels like a guilty pleasure because it's so bad in so many ways. If the two current main characters (Oswald and Jim) weren't doing such a terrific acting job, I might honestly not even watch it. Oswald being behind the robbery was a twist I should have seen coming but didn't, so that was great. Him killing the lackeys with cake went too far for me, but I'll give it to them after they managed to surprise me. Who is the woman Fish hired at the end, is she from the comics?

I agree the **** with Bruce is stupid. There's too many "Hey guys, I'm gonna be Batman" bombs, and like above mentioned, might make sense if he was a young adult, but is just dumb here. But on the other hand, he's really only being used as a supporting cast to Jim so I'm ok with it for now.

While Penguin has always obviously been older than batman, I never pictured riddler as much older than him in any iteration. Having Penguin and Riddler be essentially the same age is really weird to me
