Pretty awful to pick bet when going first. Kyunghoon is such a loose cannon, will be somewhat funny when he is in top 5/7 and the "swing vote" and one team just have to take the gamble and join up with him.

I'm curious to know which was worse for him:

Spoiler:
This or Andrea Boehlke's boot on Survivor?

This, and it's not close. Andrea is cute; Sangmin is hot.

I'm sure some people will say Sangmin played badly, and they're right to some extent, but as someone whose weakness is DMs and whose strength is to screw people over and have them not care, I think his original game line is defensible. I think his blindspot in TG4 was just how volatile K-hound truly was and why he should just never be trusted with any information at all. Once Sangmin got backed into the corner, he played it right by letting Dongmin save him. Props to Junseok for reading the situation correctly.

As easy as it will be to pick Sangmin's flaws apart, it's pretty telling that he yet again screwed everyone over, yet Dongmin quietly stuck his neck out for him and was willing to totally screw over Hyunmin's girl...and then Kyungran also completely stuck her neck out for him, too. Yes, this is a move that Sangmin was less likely to get away with when playing with All-Stars (even ones like Junseok), but still, no one actually wanted him to be the one to go. That's pretty impressive, and without Junseok's move, Sangmin is alive in week 4 with the most garnets.

To clarify, as I watched this on my phone in a parking lot and am admittedly frazzled: the final result was that Kyunghoon soul-read Kyungran, correct? If so, that's pretty impressive, even if Kyungran was less than convincing when she lied. If I understand things correctly, Kyunghoon is guaranteed a tie if he's wrong, right? That's pretty ballsy of Kyunghoon in a spot where I don't believe any Genius contestant has ever lied. (Side note for Colin: Sangmin getting the god-mode draw of Kyungran in spot #11 was pretty sick.)

Hyunmin has this thing on lockdown IMO.

I'm unhappy with the outcome on one level obv but it made for a fantastic episode (Sangmin channelling Tony by hiding under the table = A+). He can't blame anyone but himself. Kyunghoon is just incredible though, so at least he'll be around.

Maybe I'm missing something, but isn't a 6-2-1 split in Round 4 (Jinho as the 1, Hyunmoon as the 2) better than what they did? Their solution falls apart if Sangmin/Kyunghoon both pick fried rice and go for 3 points, which can easily happen even if they don't have Dongmin acting as a mole. With 6-2-1 (let's say it goes red dish/green dish/rice in that order):

If Sangmin/Kyunghoon choose the same dish:
- If they choose rice, they have to pick 2-3 to gain points; but Hyunmoon are there too, so it's a wash
- If they choose green dish, they would have to pick 4-6 to gain points; but since this is a distinct choice, Hyunmoon can mirror it and then it's a wash
- If they choose red dish, they would have to somehow pick 7-10 but then they still gain fewer points than Hyunmoon on 2-3
- If either Sangmin or Kyunghoon puts their box on 2-3 and the other on 4-6, then Jungmoon and Hyunmin respectively can mirror that choice and the outcome is the same

If Sangmin/Kyunghoon choose different dishes:
- Sangmin needs to get as many points as Jungmoon, Kyunghoon needs to get 3 more than Hyunmin OR 2 more if Sangmin/Jungmoon are tied.
- Nobody can gain points on 1, and if Hyunmoon just stay on 2-3 then they gain the maximum
- Again, if they put their boxes in different zones then mirroring them locks it up.

This works even if everything is public information, so Dongmin can't help Sangmin without exposing himself and betraying his alliance.

Sangmin/Tony thing was the hardest I've laughed at a reality game show in my life. Had to pause the thing for a few minutes.

RIP

edit: and yeah ST, that solution seems correct.

I think she told him something different when he asked the second time, so he went back to see what he wrote the first time. Then, since it didn't matter if he won or lost, he just picked the the third option (scissors) to ensure it wasn't a tie. That's how it appeared to me from the editing, without rewatching.

I don't know how you can say Sangmin's line of play is defensible unless you think there is a solid chance that he will go unnoticed in helping Kyunghoon. If he's caught (or if Kyunghoon confesses like an idiot, like he did), he is on 0 points with only Kyunghoon on his side against everyone else.

While we eulogize Sangmin, a few other observations from this episode that I noticed:

-- Jungmoon is apparently expected to do well in Death Matches. I guess this makes sense. She can always veto Double-Sided Poker and Indian Poker if she has to, but her opponent can't get rid of all of Same Number Hunt, Gyul! Hap!, etc. Runs nicely in that three of the leveling contests have already been played.

-- Kyunghoon has apparently worked the solution to Monorail (?). I'm guessing this is hyperbole, b/c I'm doubtful otherwise. It's one thing to be very good at it/probably beat most humans, but another to be able to beat a computer.

-- Only one more dud Death Match left in the bag in Quattro.

I'd imagine 5-2-2 is the best split for 3rd round.
4-4-1 is (obviously) awful since Hyonmin scores 0 like 63% of time (since sometimes Sangmin & Co goes with 2 of same.)

but I remain #teamHyunmin and he seems poised for a win, so I'm still good

i didnt rewatch either but i thought she told him to go look at Sangmin's paper because she told him, then when he asked the second time she said "i told you earlier, scissors"

seemed like a sick soulread, i could be wrong though.

sucks to see Sangmin go, but he was definitely outplayed in the DM

Yah, you guys are right, I rewatched. She told Sangmin she chose paper, but he wrote it down as scissors. When Kyunghoon asked her, she said to get it from Sangmin, and Sangmin shared his sheet. When Kyunghoon asked her the second time, she said it was scissors. Soul read indeed.

I don't think Hongchul was available for this season; I seem to remember reading he's recently had some problems with the law.

But yea +1 to K-hound being amazing. God I love this show

Yeah, he has withdrawn from all TV shows since he was drunk driving. He was pretty awful as player so whatever.

In general terms, that was one of the best episodes of reality TV I think I've ever seen. Maybe it's just post-episode hyperbole, but it was ****ing amazing the whole way through. Every single one of the 4 rounds in the MM had something amazing happen. Sangmin discovering the false bottom and going full Spy Shack was incredible.

And it was legitimately suspenseful through the final round of the death match (helps to not know how much time is left in the episode). After round 8-9 when Sangmin was losing ~12-0, it would be natural to think, "damn, he's obviously not coming back from this." I love that at 18-6 in the final round we were given a plausible scenario for how Sangmin could triple up from Kyungran's duplicity - bravo to the editors. Before the final reveal I remembered Dongmin's ridiculous monorail win in S3; sometimes the GOATs can pull a victory out of nowhere, so Sangmin doing the same wasn't out of the realm of possibilities.

Since he was 3 points behind going into that round he probably assumed he had to spike the 5 points to have a chance of winning.

It's certainly impressive but, if you have that kind of influence over even the best players in the cast, why throw your lot in with the one guy who has zero self-control? Taking a hyper-individualistic approach to the game is fine, but with his talents he can surely find someone in that large group who would make a better sidekick.

It's weird, because his actual performance so far has been subpar (his Episode 1 strategy required a large group to all work together without going rogue, and he wasn't able to maintain that; here, he chose at least one suboptimal line that gave Sangmin/Kyunghoon unnecessary outs) yet he's still the 'smartest' and most popular (certainly top 2-3) play in the cast and has the other biggest threats on his side.

Power rankings:
1. Hyunmin
2. Dongmin

I could see Dongmin being 1st but these are the clear top 2 I think. I love them and it would be great to see them dominate again, but I also hope some decent opposition emerges soon.

After that it gets tricky. My instinct is to put Jinho and Youhyun at 3rd and 4th, but I can't really justify it for Youhyun. He's set up well to make a deep run, but he's been a spectator in MMs and we saw him fall apart against Yeonjoo in a S3 DM. Ditto Jinho. Who else is there, though? Junseok? Jungmoon, if she is actually the DM beast people think she is?
