Me and cstone have talked about the fact that the dealer should totally be on the show some day. Looks like this was originally the plan:

"She was Miss Korea eons ago I like her too. Very presentable and pleasant looking on-screen. Read somewhere that she was supposed to join S1 as contestant but was dropped due to the similarity in job nature with Cha Simple. In the end, she became the long-staying dealer on the programme instead. Wondered how she would have played the Genius games."

^Absolutely, the dealer is alluring in a way I can't quite describe.

Finished S2:

Spoiler:
Seeing people rank S2 below S1 itt, I thought Sangmin wasn't going to win... so this was a wonderful surprise. He was shaky in some of the games earlier and in S1, but after Episode 4 or so it was complete domination. Really fun season with a great cast.

Jumped out of my chair when he said he'd throw away his second marker.
Replying (through S02E07):

Spoiler:
I thought it was obvious (or at least extremely likely) that Sangmin had two exact numbers, so I was watching him in the background during the other rolls, and he really sold the enthusiasm during the other meaningless rolls. By that, I mean he knew he'd won, yet he didn't let on at all. The TV IQ to not spoil the big reveal, then make the dramatic, grandiose "I only need one marker!" statement is what makes Sangmin so elite. He's having fun with the game, yet he knows it's important that it be enjoyable for TV viewers, too. That's probably the thing I appreciate the most about him: he's a true showman.

Jinho leaving is the best possible result. With the tiebreaker set up that way, it's an interesting decision for him on what he folds vs. a first hand jam. He likely has a huge advantage over Jiwon, but with only 15 chips, he can't ever fold vs. a 2. I think he does have to fold vs. a 3, though, and definitely vs. a 4.

Bolded the relevant part. S2 was ranked lower for the same reason Redemption Island and One World are ranked lower than other Survivor seasons. It's nothing against Sangmin, just who he was playing against.

So I found another awesome Korean show: Crime Scene

http://bxrme.tumblr.com/post/8555850...e-scene-subbed

It's basically a mix between werewolf/mafia and Cluedo. It's 6 people (Jinho is in the cast!) who draw characters at the beginning of the episode and then one of them is the murderer. They get to search the crime scene, interrogate each other, do briefings etc. At the end they vote and the majority voters get some money if they are right - and if they aren't then the murderer gets the majority's money. It's 2 episodes per murder/mystery.

And the viewer isn't told the murderer. And the edit doesn't reveal it (everyone has interviews where they are pretending to be trying to catch the murderer).

First mystery:

Spoiler:
After the first ep I was between Jinho and the daughter. And this didn't really have anything to do with any clues - I just excluded the others based on "reads". Henry's asinine theories meant imo that he was never the killer. The loud guy's loudness and aggressiveness made me not suspect him. The nurse's reactions to being called "the devil" seemed like an innocent finding the strong suspicion incredible and mindboggling rather than a guilty person being annoyed or trying to downplay it or whatever. Also, in episode 2 it was really clear she wasn't the murderer given her doubts about the uncle which seemed really genuine to me. I can't remember why I ruled out the mom, but it was something she said during the briefing stage.

Throughout second ep I became really sure that it was the daughter, partly because of the medical book and because it felt like it was one of the adjoining rooms and I had already ruled out the uncle. But also just partly because I'd eliminated Jinho too by this point due to how he wanted to work together with the mom - seemed believable to me.

It seems lame writing that I got it right after the fact, so from now on I'll post my theories itt as I watch the ep (and you're just gonna have to trust me :P)

It's gonna be interesting to see this format develop over the next few mysteries. If they get better at the solving I could see it becoming too easy to find the murderer. If they'd found the raincoat for this first mystery it would've been pretty lol, but without that hint I think it was a fair match (the good guys obv need what we in werewolf would call "peeks" such as the mom being ruled out by CCTV footage).

So yeah, I've just gotten hooked on Korean shows now.

I've begun watching Running Man now. It's pretty fun. They just do wacky games, basically, in order to avoid punishments. They often do chase or tag games where there are teams and you have to track down the other team and collect their tags.

Someone said that for a first time viewer who wanted to begin towards the start of the show they should begin with ep 13 and that is indeed a good choice:

http://kshowonline.com/kshow/26-[engsub]-running-man-ep.13

Also, Dongmin from season 3 of The Genius is a guest in this ep.

Just finished S3E9

Spoiler:
Didn't want to see Yoohyun leave just yet but as long as Hyunmin and Dongmin remain intact I'm happy. Rooting for Hyunmin to take it down but I think the best ending for TV is Dongmin shipping and the lady dealer finally acknowledging him.

Just finished S3 and highly upset that there aren't any more seasons to watch. Amazing show overall.

Spoiler:
Still can't believe Dongmin in the S3E10 death match.

Dongmin and Hyunmin definitely my two favorite characters of all the seasons, followed closely by Jinho, Yohwan aka SlayerS Boxer, and Sunggyu. Dongmin for GOAT.

The show is a bit long at 1:10 of running time imo. Even fast forwarding through some of the rules, it's still a bit lengthy when it gets down to fewer players and there isn't really THAT much to watch. Having to watch subtitles means can't be doing other stuff while watching it either, but of course that's not a fault of the show. That said, still marathoned through the first season. One of the competitors got pretty screwed my the guest audience!

General S3 thoughts up to S03E08:

Spoiler:
What are people thoughts about the change in rules to garnets? I actually prefer S01 and S02's system of claiming the eliminated contestants garnets. In S03 there are a lot less opportunities to use them throughout the main game, and they just "loan" them to people pre-death match anyway. Maybe something like win 50% of your opponent's garnets could be best.

Dongmin might be the most entertaining character out of all 3 seasons. He's great to watch. Surprised it took this long to get a solid multi-episode alliance (barring Jinho's alliance pairs of 2 episodes).

Indian Poker > Indian Hold'em > whatever they call the poker variant in S03

Sangmin not even top 5? Dongmin and Hyunmin were both fantastic but I felt like Sangmin was on a different level.

My rankings for the top 5 players from the first three seasons would be

Spoiler:
1. Sangmin

[decent sized gap]

2. Dongmin
3. Hyunmin

[huge gap]

4. Jinho

[huge gap]

5. Sunggyu

Spoiler:
agree with top 4, though I wouldn't say huge gap down to Jinho (he wasn't bad socially at all and could get ppl on his side, it's just that Sangmin was SO unbelievably good in this regard)

I like Sunggyu a lot and think he is underestimated, but still... In a non-Sangmin season I think Yoohyun is better and prolly one or two others (as in I'd bet on them over Sunggyu to ship it)

cstone, what is ur all star line up from first 3 seasons? Had to follow the usual ratio of gender. Will think on mine when I get home.

Spoiler:
I mean, my list was just a list of personal favorites, but yeah, I wasn't really a Sangmin fan. If I were to include him in a top 5 list, I'd still place Dongmin & Hyunmin (I feel both would be favored over Sangmin in any game... aside from Dongmin in Monorail), and Jinho (who demonstrated he was better with S1's results). I'll give him credit though, Sangmin was definitely good at getting people on his side.

My preferred cast for an all-star season made up of people from first 3 seasons (don't read this if you haven't seen all seasons):

Spoiler:
Season 1 had 5 females and Season 2 and 3 had 4, so I'll go with 4 females. This isn't my list of the 13 best people, but merely the people I think would make for the greatest season. In no particular order:

Sangmin
Dongmin
Hyunmin
Jinho
Yohwan
Yoohyun
Sunggyu
Hongchul
Junghyun
Kyungran
Yuram
Yooyoung
Ahyoung

I was close to picking Gura or Jimmy Cha. But I think having Gura in there with certain other people would mess up the dynamic too much in an ungood way. Jimmy Cha would be good, but ultimately I went with Junghyun for the "older man" spot because 1) he was 3rd, so my season would have all top 3 finishers, 2) he seems fluid wrt who he can ally with which is good for the game and 3) there's something to be said for the fact that he and Jinho are the only people to survive 3 deathmatches (if I'm not mistaken).

Hongchul and Ahyoung in particular are picked based on their personalities / entertainment value. Yooyoung picked based on hotness / being last female standing in her season. Lawyer lady and Park Eunji are both better players than Ahyoung and Yooyoung, but meh.

Spoiler:
I'd probably prefer either of Gura or Cha to Junghyun since I think they're both substantially more willing/able to shake the games up and I'd lean Eunji over Yooyoung but I don't think that's a huge difference maker either way. Would strongly cosign everyone else you listed.

After the ID controversy from his boot episode, producers may feel like Doohee deserves another shot and I wouldn't take issue with including him instead of Yoohyun or Yohwan. If they get Sangmin, Dongmin, Hyunmin, Jinho, and Hongchul there's really no way to go wrong with the rest.

Alright, Jimmy Cha instead!

Yooyoung still in though because otherwise we have no female rep from season 2.

I think you're right that Doohee would have to get another shot. In that case I guess Yoohyun has to go which is a shame, but oh well. Having Yohwan in is better because of his rivalry with Jinho and his utter uselessness in main matches and his often chaotic and erratic behavior which I personally found entertaining.

Lock that in and let's send it to the producers :P

Finished S03. Comments about all 3 seasons:

Spoiler:
Fantastic season, great storyline.

Still take Jinho as best player. He shipped S01, whilst looking untouchable in death matches. Was only eliminated in S02 due a cooler in Indian Hold'em that resulted in a game of high card. Won the revenge game in S02 and S03. He cleaned up from the show.

One interesting thing I stumbled upon was that the show has been accused of being a plagiary of a Korean drama series "Liar Game" (adapted from a manga of the same name).

The plot:
"Nam Da-jung is an innocent college student who passes a hidden camera audition and is invited to join the reality show Liar Game, a psychological survival game wherein participants trick each other and the one who ultimately succeeds wins the prize money of ₩10 billion (US$9.3 million)."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liar_Game_(2007_TV_series) (there's also a second season of this, but this English wiki page is outdated)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liar_Ga...4_TV_series%29 (a 2014 season - seems like it's a reboot or a third season with new characters)

There are English subs for all 3 seasons, so I'm gonna check it out.
Having watched the Japanese version and read the whole manga series (which just finished), I recommend you just read it. That is the original story, after all, and the TV Series is bit too winded. The Japanese show and manga storylines diverge at some point, can't remember where exactly, but I know for certain chapters 104+ weren't in the TV.

You can find the whole series here:

And to continue my gambling comics suggestions, these two are both from Fukumoto Nobuyuki who mainly does gambling manga with games like the ones in Genius (except people might actually die):

(I'd leave Akagi last since is more enjoyable if you know basic rules of Riichi Mahjong).
