Lolwat

Dany's thought process during last season was pretty close to the edge of unacceptable to me.

"Hey, let this witch whose village you slaughtered and enslaved treat your wounds"

"Oh, the small cut is getting worse? He's almost dead? Nobody kill the witch, let her kill this horse and deliver my baby"

I'd almost rather the witch have poofed Dany with some magical trusting stupid dust. I'd have an easier time believing that than her being completely sober, making ridiculous decisions, and everybody (including Drogo) going along with it.

Now she and her (currently useless) dragons are stuck in the desert doing nothing.

Maybe you're trolling? I find pretty much every other storyline more believable and engaging.

Remember that Dany's still basically a youngish idealistic girl in way over her head. There's a badass front to her, but she makes bad, impulsive decisions. Especially as it relates to MMD- those weren't supposed to be good choices.

Re: Game Of Thrones TV SHOW DISCUSSION ONLY

Strange series imo. One one hand, it's easily the show I look forward to the most each week; I see each episode two or three times and they don't get old. It's super fun and it's absolutely well made.

On the other hand, 95% of the questions I think about during the show are mostly just about plot. When compared to other movies/series/books that I think are great, GoT is by far the least subtle. Imo there isn't a ton of cleverness going on with symbolism or thematic development or character arcs, and there really isn't much to talk about after every episode other than "holy crap that was awesome," and "wow I wonder what's going to happen next."

The plots are great, the world is rich and complicated, and it's all awesome to watch. The big achievement to me seems like they took the sword-and-sandals genre but made the tone believable (it feels like 80% Sopranos & 20% LOTR), also a big thumbs up to the overall lack of pandering, and the best part is that they aren't afraid to pulverize audience expectations by killing Ned Stark. So I'm not being critical, my point is mostly just that it's weird to like a show so much but then to feel like thinking about it afterwards doesn't really add a lot of value.

Re: Game Of Thrones TV SHOW DISCUSSION ONLY

I've been watching Battlestar Galactica recently, and while the first season and a half was good, the writing eventually became really lazy and like five minutes into an episode you can pretty much predict what is going to happen and how a character will arc. The dialogue and the acting is essentially a straightforward vessel for the "adventure" part of the show (and there's not even much adventure). In Game of Thrones you don't know how to interpret a character's actions in terms of what it means for their fate. You certainly don't know if good will defeat evil, or even who the good side(s) is entirely. So in that sense I think GoT is a quite subtle show.

Just for one example from Battlestar Galactica, this is super minor spoiler:

Re: Game Of Thrones TV SHOW DISCUSSION ONLY

As far as "what to think about afterwards" with Game of Thrones, what I find myself doing is putting myself in a character's shoes and thinking about what moves I would make if I were them. Strangely enough, the most fun character to imagine myself being is the lead baby dragon who sits on Dany's shoulder.
