Him saying he found the guy so that Bell would answer the phone was a legit lol.

"I think his demands are quite reasonable" lol, funny 14th ep.

Tracking down where the guy was based on radio frequencies or w/e has gotta be the most far-fetched occurrence on this show so far but whatever fun to watch.

Watson had multiple notable contributions this last ep; she's def learning from Sherlock.

I love Sherlock so much and really wanted to hate this show but man it's top notch in a different way. Great episode.

Getting better with each Ep I think. I look forward to it now.

Agreed. The cases are generally better and now the characters are more formed its becoming more character driven than plot driven for me.

so ive been watching 'sherlock' (bbc show) with my brother and its incredible but 6 episodes just isnt enough for me. i also remember liking this pilot, especially miller as sherlock, but didnt stick with it bc i didnt want to get invested in a show that was gonna end up having no long arc and basically be case of the week type stuff. anyway i guess ill ask a few questions:

-is this show good?
-does it have a long/recurring arc? does moriarty make an appearance in some form?

i obviously dont expect this to be near what sherlock is but just wondering wat the consensus around here is.

edit: sry if this has been dealt with i just didnt wanna spoil myself by reading thru the thread.

Everyone posting in this thread really enjoys the show, and most have probably seen Sherlock. I also think it's the best new drama on network TV by a wide margin.

That should answer your first question. They had one episode where they alluded to Moriarty, but that was it. The only large arc is dealing with Sherlock's personality, but the cases of the week are nicely done for a network procedural (not too simple, and just enough interesting twists). It's usually a relatively solid procedural case with a single twist. Miller is quite good, but his performance of Sherlock could not be more different Cumberbatch's.

You can't really compare the two shows, because Elementary is like a child's toy in comparison to Sherlock, but it's still a very well done police procedural, and definitely worth watching.

Agree with what Nunnehi says. I also think the show gets better over time, not sure if the writing has gotten better or if I have just come to like the characters more to let me buy into the not amazing but usually pretty good cases.

The moriarty story is in there, it probably has been explicitly there from the pilot but it is at least implicitly there from a few episodes in and it has been slowly built up over the episodes. I have a feeling there is a big reveal where we find a lot more things have been linked to him than we realise, but that may just be wishful thinking.

+1 to all of that.

I'd rank Sherlock up just below top tier (Wire, Sopranos) shows and have no problem mentioning it in the same breath with Justified, Deadwood, The Shield, etc.

Elementary is not in that category but it's easily at the top end of network shows. It's not really fair to compare the two, and if Sherlock didn't exist we'd all be raving about Elementary being such a fantastic adaptation (which we still are, it's just a little unfortunate about the inevitable comparison).

I just saw that the season finale will be 2 hours. I wonder if that means it will be a Moriarty themed episode...

Considering it wasn't a Holmes centric episode it was still pretty good. Nice to see Prez and Bubs from The Wire.

I enjoyed the ep a lot, it was timed nicely in the season to have a Watson focused ep to underline her development into being a detective where they make it clear she is fully invested now and importantly why she is.

18 episodes in I think this show is about 5 times as good as i would have expected it to be at this point after watching the pilot. I don't think it will ever be great but it's consistently a really good watch.

Part way through this last episode, I assumed we were in for a boring "two seemingly unrelated cases tie together in an extremely unlikely way" type scenario. Was pleasantly surprised by the ending.

The new episode was great. I think Miller and Liu have found a great rhythm and flow with their characters and the show makes sense with nothing about their interactions seeming false in any way. I love the reimagining of Mrs Hudson, landlady at Baker St, as Miss Hudson, professional transvestite girlfriend and muse to rich creative men who is their cleaning lady once a week. A+ writing.

See, I keep missing small things because I don't actually know the books. All during last ep I was like "wtf is this new ladyboy doing in this story", it felt out of place and weird/useless. Makes more sense now that I know she's going to be a recurring character.

First, 2hrs finale = jizz.

Second, I'm still really enjoying this serie. The double-homicide episode (one previous last) was really good, nice ending and pleased to see the Watson driven episode. I would love to see some teaching scenes between Sherlock & Watson outside of real life cases. Like at the end of last ep when he tells her to come back with a blindfold for the blood splatters, would be fun to see a 5-6min scene about this type of stuff.

Wow, Phill, I didn't realize that's what the character was meant to represent. Good catch.

I don't think anyone who enjoys this show has any problem with Watson being totally re-imagined. I don't think this was a great episode in the series, but it was still highly enjoyable. Some of those snow viz fx were pretty hard to watch...

Awesome casting news - they have found their Irene Adler:

Spoiler:
It is Natalie Dormer, best known as Margaery Tyrell from Game of Thrones.

So hot, so perfect as the woman. Some awesome things of note:
1, she is a poker fan so we could see an awesome poker scene with Sherlock and Irene when they first meet (but probably not)
2, she is a member of the London Fencing Academy so is obv well skilled at going for the pate
3, if you were a genius you would also fall in love with her

Edit, she will be on the episodes May 9th then the two part extended finale May 16th. Moriarty first appearance to finish the season perhaps?
