Here's some images for the new season - http://www.nerdist.com/2012/08/new-d...ries-7-photos/

Very interesting. Also at the bottom it says the probable return date is September 1st.

So pumped, almost done with S6, finished S5 just before so I'll be all caught up with Smith episodes at least.

I thought I read somewhere that BBC America cuts a ton out of the episodes to fit with commercials. Is that true? Any way to see them full?

Shocking they don't have a definitive date this close to airing.

So pumped.

I read the same thing. One writer had says it will air in Britain and US on same day (September 1st).

I can't wait.

Looks like they finally made it official - http://www.bbcamerica.com/doctor-who...premiere-date/

My guide currently has the Christmas Special airing that night.

I think Asylum of the Daleks airs that night no?

I would assume the Xmas special is aired on Xmas?

Yeah, sorry. Meant to say it's listed as last year's christmas special so I assume that will be updated.

Last year's Christmas special made me really warm up to Matt Smith although I still think he looks like a more humanized version of a changeling from Deep Space Nine.

So glad they promoted "Pond Life" so much and it ended up being :54. Thats seconds, not minutes. I know theres 5 parts, but like 4 1/2 minutes? Really?

The trailers for the new episode are great. Its the first time I have seen there is a new dalek ep and I havent just rolled my eyes cos they seem to be breaking new ground with them which is extraordinarily rare.

Awesome first episode. Really well done. Daleks used well, lots of Amy and a good ending = pure win.

That was awesome. The chick turning out to be a dalek was predictable but the payoff worked well regardless and the ending as they reintroduce the "Doctor who?" arc from the payoff of the last season was great.

The next episode looks like one of those DW episodes that is ridiculously cheesy and is a real test of letting go and just ignoring the ridiculousness. Reading the summary of the three that follow that makes them sound extraordinarily good though.

The big surprise in this episode was the appearance of Jenna-Louise Coleman as Oswin. She has been confirmed to be The Doctor's next companion following Amy and Rory. Her first appearance as companion is supposed to be the Christmas special.

I didnt mention that as its a bit of a spoiler.

I am really curious about what they have planned and my theory is that someone pitched the most epic concept ever in a writers meeting that they had no option but to do it.

I think I have it figured out, but I honestly have no clue. My theory with a small spoiler that may not be a spoiler due to what Moffat said in an interview:

Spoiler:
My initial theory was that she is saved from the Daleks in a not too dissimilar way to how he saved himself at Lake Silencia where he saves her before she joins the Alaska and replaces her with a ganger duplicate. But reading an interview yesterday Moffat said that they are going to do the "losing a friend and making a new one" story properly - maybe he means that literally and Oswin isnt actually human at all and she is in fact a ganger duplicate that he scans.

I definately think there is a part where she is selected because of the hopelessness of her situation. The one constant of the Doctor is his companions always end up worse off in some way, though a few have a fairly good ending, and Oswin having no future at all let alone a positive one is the perfect companion because she cant "lose". She might not even know she was Oswin or what happened to her original personality.

The simplest theory of course is like Gwen Cooper from Torchwood they will have the actress play two characters and just give a throwaway line about them being related seperated by a few generations, but it just makes no sense to me what that adds to the story to make them cast her as a short cameo to then die sacrificing herself only to be effectively "reborn" as a new character entirely.

Was she cast as the new companion before she was acting in this Saturday's episode?

If that was the case they would really have too explain it in a good/interesting way.

I hope that they bring her back as a dalek, with cut sceens from inside her mind. It would be hilarious having the doctor traveling through time with a dalek companion.

They cast her as the new companion before they started work on the new season.

The character name is odd which I read not long ago today (minor spoiler):

Spoiler:
In Asylum of the Daleks her character is Oswin Oswald. However as the companion it is revealed by producers and the BBC she is called Clara Oswin. I just refuse to believe given the hints of how "this isnt your normal boy meets girl" from Moffat and how its one of the bigger mysteries of the show it is as simple as she is related to the Oswin who got converted by the Daleks.

Thinking about it more she has to be a completely exceptional reveal plotted out ahead of time due to the way they intentionally kept this a secret as if it was a big reveal on its own that in the first episode the new companion dies and she is probably the "badwolf" of the season linking it all together rather than the question and the silence directly. Given the way she was converted to Dalek despite being fully human (which is completely unheard of in the history of the show afaik), she wasnt just exterminated on sight and she managed to override the Dalek programming and rewrote the entire psychic link between all Daleks (which is indicated to be really hard even as a Dalek) she clearly isnt just a really smart person like Martha was.

Sorry, I didn't think it was a spoiler as it's been fairly well publicised that she was going to play the new companion.

It's certainly going to be interesting to see how they're going to bring her back in at Christmas.

Well, there is a precedent within Doctor Who for the same actress playing two different characters including a companion. Thinking Freema Agyeman here.

Last edited by Doc T River; 09-08-2012 at 05:00 AM. Reason: She played Adeola in Army of Ghosts and her cousin Martha Jones, the doctor's companion.

That precedent only exists because they were in a minor role and then got brought back after death when they got recast or they were just reused in a different manner - they did the same with the welsh chick and Jack on Torchwood too and Donna Noble is sort of the same too where she was never expected to do more than a one shot story.

They just wont have started making episode one of this season before they cast the next companion. The fact they kept her appearance on it secret is a huge spoiler on its own showing something is going on.

Anyways, Doctor Who is about to start and this will be the first time I watched it live in about 6 years. That has to be a good sign for the show I guess, lol.

I'm expecting tonight's episode to be something of calm before the storm with nothing substantive going on.

It's airing at 8pm tonight in my area and the fiancee liked last week's episode enough that she'll let me watch it with her as opposed to taping it and watching it later alone.

I've gotten her into watching by sharing the more emotional episodes like A Parting Of The Ways, The Next Doctor, A Christmas Carol, and last week's episode.
