+1

loved the last episode. also loving the ads for the finale with the way the "date of massive explosion" is the broadcast date. cunning imo.

This season maybe has potential to be awesome on a rewatch? they certainly hammered home the "cracks in the universe" in loads of episodes, some I considered weak. If there's more subtle hints buried throughout that'd be nice.

I'm now quite used to the "new" doctor, I think he's awesome. and obv amy pond.

Was watching the news today, and they were showing pictures of the sky following a major storm and I swear I saw the cracks. We're doooomed

Finally caught up, loving the new Dr & Pond. A few weak eps but P1 of the final was awesome.

I vaguely remember some of the old eps scaring the hell out of me when i was a kid whereas the new eps seem a bit "campy". Is this accurate? or have i just grown up.

Also, was the Sonic as prominant in the old eps as it is in these? The Dr just seems to wave it at things and it solves every problem.

My friend who i just got into the series did say Blink got him once or twice, and Time of Angels got me once.

Yeah, 9-11 use the thing for everything

I do love a none linear narrative.

The series started off a bit crappy and the dalek ep was just pure ****e but that was a v solid ending and hopefully they hit the ground running and season 6 is back to form.

For anyone who likes the Orbital version of the Dr theme...i got a kick out of this:

Matt Smith enhanced Orbital

The screens a bit wibbley

Ok I'm finally caught up and can safely open this thread again!

Matt Smith S1 was, on the whole, awesome. The Angels eps drive me crazy because Blink was my favorite 60 minutes of anything I have ever seen, and when they brought them back this season they seemed to just be ignoring so much of that episode it killed me. But they redeemed it in part because of that continuity trick, which was great.

My first thoughts at the finale were "I just watched a 12 hour episode of Doctor Who"...the Tardis was drawn to trouble (Amy's house) and they spent the entire season fixing that, and I loved it.

I also thought to myself that I had actually just seen the first season of The Amy Pond Show. More than ever since the reboot, this season felt like it was all about the companion, and the Doctor was almost secondary to the companion. I loved how the finale treated the "Great Cosmic Crisis" almost as secondary to Amy's own personal story.

So yeah. Still my favorite show. Matt Smith is fantastic, the writing is still excellent, and holy crap am I jazzed for the next season when, I presume, we'll get more answers, too.

I just found out there's a new season of torchwood coming this year and that led me to this thread.

I've always wanted to watch DW but there's just soooo many episodes and they're not easy to find. I hate the idea of watching a show like this without watching it from start to finish but I just don't see it happening. Any suggestions for how to proceed? :P

You can pretty much jump in on any season, but generally speaking start from Ecclestone and then just keep going for 7 seasons (or whatever it is) is best, though you can skip one season and start from Tennant if you have to without missing a huge amount of the story.

Most seasons are pretty well contained, but you wont get the full effect with all the subtleties without going from Ecclestone and Piper up to the last Tennant season. Alternately you can skip all of that and just watch the last season (which this thread is about) and see how it goes.

I'd start with Series 1 (Piper and Eccleston). If you've already watched TW great, if not watch season 1 after DW Series 2, season 2 after DW 3, and season 3 after DW4.

Nice bump, was meaning to do this myself.

I enjoyed the first two parts and the end of the second ep was really really good.

So i assume The Silence is the big bad of this season and the little girl is the daughter of Pond and the Doctor?

Or is River Song, or the daughter of River and the doctor as they clearly are going to have a relationship this series.

I was going off the fact that Pond said she was pregnant and there was the room with the picture of her holding a baby which implies some kind of crazy time looping going on, but we know from the first ep that the girl in the suit can travel through time to some degree and seems to be (at least half) timelord.

Thing is they rammed down our throats in the last episode that Amy is with Rory and has no interest in the Doctor, so still think its more likely River/Rivers's kid and whatever Rivers dark day is leads to Amy looking after the baby. But there is time loops and probably linked time loops to the previous series (the fez is likely to come in at some point).

Nice to have some semi complex scifi (and Mark Sheppard) on at teatime on a Saturday, wish they would stick with the main story as the Pirate thing next week looks a bit crappy, although looking forward to Neil Gaimans episode which is meant to be the week after.

Right at the end it was opened back up that she could have been referring to the Doctor when talking earlier in the ep.

Pretty sure the BBC wouldn't have the Doctor having it off with his married assistant behind her husband's back.

What was with the woman opening the hatch and saying something about Pond dreaming?

Is Pond special in some way? I have only just started watching this season. It cant be a coincidence that Pond is pregnant and theres a kid on the loose, could that kid be River? Why is River in Jail? For killing the doctor?

No clue.

Yes, she had some weird space time energy leak through her bedroom her whole life.

Possible theory.

Murder

Popular theory.
