There's always at least one gaping plothole when Moffat gets clever.

The rooms reset because they are part of the confession disc. The diamond is part of the interface between the disc and Gallifrey, so there's no requirement that it follow the same rules.

Really, this is simple stuff. If it really bothers you, just keep saying to yourself "It's just a story" over and over. Doctor Who returns

Ummm... I asked a question, don't read so much into it. I am glad it gave you an opportunity to assert your superiority, though.

Loved seeing the citadel of the Time Lords. But I really had to roll my eyes at the hybrid is "Me" line.

My apologies if you took offense; none was intended and certainly not trying to be superior to anyone. Just a fan of the show like everyone else on here.

If you didn't like my answer to the plot point question, certainly feel free to come up with something different...it's all good! My real point, having started watching the show when Pertwee was the lead, is that in the history of the show one thing you certainly shouldn't do is take it too seriously!

One thing I really enjoy about Moffat's writing (and Davies before him) is that he is clearly a long time fan of the show...it really comes through in his stories. And even if the current series has a somewhat darker tone...it's still clear that he's having fun with it. Shades of the Tom Baker/Robert Holmes years...Talons of Weng Chiang took a lot of criticism, but it was a fabulous story.

Just my opinion, but I think what made Tom Baker so popular was that in a sense he wasn't acting...he WAS the doctor. David Tennant had a little of that, but I think Peter Capaldi is getting there...this series has seen him evolve from playing a character to owning it.

So apologies again, didn't mean to step on any toes! Love the show, rarely post, but enjoy reading the discussions.

Yay, sonic screwdriver is back.

Boo I want to watch Me and Clara cruising the universe in am American diner and don't give a **** about the Doctor.

I've watched every episode since the reboot and quite a few before and I've never cared less since the show returned.

The show is so uneven verging on terrible half the time. Its not Capaldi, though he is taking so long to work out who he is, it's all the big decisions are failures.

Clara entered the show with such promise. Such badly wasted promise. The worst part was the meaninglessness of her death. Probably the most logical death of the entire show and it just got undermined entirely. Sure the end of the latest ep gives so much promise for where it could go two immortals and a time machine awesome but they can't have it both ways and expect it to not be highly diminished in every way.

The last episode, best Capaldi ep by far. Nothing bad to say of it.

The start of this episode was awesome. Capaldi with no lines out acted Matt Smith at his very best. But god damn they just can't leave well enough alone. The hybrid stuff this season was never good. Ashildr was a waste of a great actress, she just didn't work in that role and the more they went back to her the less meaningful the character was.

The show isn't at the reboot stage yet (Idris Elba for Doctor Luther Bond hatrick ftw) but wow they need something new and interesting to shake things up. Let's have a male android companion from the future. For reasons I haven't exactly worked out yet but **** it let's go another way with the Doctor companion dynamic.

Agree with this, I think Clara was supposed to be done at the end of last season's christmas episode and I think that would have been a fantasically written ending to her story.

Watching jessica jones made me miss tennant

I thought it was quite a poignant end to the series that didn't diminish the impact of Clara's death too badly as it's not an entirely happy ending. There's a void in the Doctor's past which he's aware of but can never fill, while Clara is living on borrowed time. Although it does feel a bit like Moffat is giving a raised middle finger to everyone who criticised Clara for taking over the Doctor's role.

Agree that the Doctor-companion dynamic needs to change now. The relationship between the Doctor and Clara was supposedly so strong that the Doctor was willing to spend 4.5 billion years punching a wall, so that's a pretty tough act to follow.

In the middle of a series re-watch and I just noticed a funny little callback that had slipped past me through multiple previous viewings:

In "The Poison Sky" (season 4 ep where Sontarans are polluting the earth's atmosphere) when the Doctor and UNIT agents are outside in gas masks and he asks the UNIT commander "Are you my mummy?"

I got a nice chuckle out of that one.

Sadly, that was the worst Doctor Who episode I have seen, and for it to be a Christmas episode makes it even worse. I hope the new season is much better.

I've pretty much completely lost interest, missed a lot of episodes and don't have much desire to catch up. The Doctor needs to regenerate.

I thought the Christmas episode was ok. It's a stand alone thing and it was fun for what it was.

I'm more worried about the new companion. From the previews I think I'm going to find her really annoying.

I remember when Tennant Doctor was paired with Donna and I was pissed, but those episodes where some of my favorites in the end. So there is hope.

I'm optimistic about the current season. Not so much about the spinoff.

I've only seen the first episode due to a DVR malfunction. One thing I didn't get is why we as the audience recognize The Doctor in a reflection in a picture of her mother, but she doesn't seem to react or notice it even though for her it isn't necessarily just a fleeting glance. In fact, you'd think she be particularly scrutinizing those pictures.

Season 10 has been very good so far with creepy, smart episodes. Bill's dynamic with the Doctor is different to the previous companions - they started off as teacher-student and haven't yet become best friends or family. It's a refreshing change.
