Another great moment I had forgotten from the most recent episode I re-watched. It was the "Amateur Night" episode. I love the episodes that that show this strange assortment of misfits going from a rag-tag mining camp, and coming together to form a real, live community. Amateur Night feels like that, as did the wedding scene between Alma and Ellsworth that closed S2.

Also I love the scene of Al singing alone in the bar, while Amateur Night is going on outside. One of my favorite closing scenes in the series. Oddly touching.

Yes! So good. The theatre troupe is one of the biggest bummers of the early cancellation, you could tell that Milch was really setting something up. Brian Cox is a ****ing treasure. That scene where Al is taking Jack on a tour of the town is so wonderful, Al is brimming with pride almost as a father would.

"And who does this belong to?"

"Well, I guess this belongs to ****ing everybody."

Spoiler:
I wonder if Langrishe would eventually betray Al in the final season. Jack is clearly a herald of "society" as a whole, just as is Hearst's intervention in the camp. I feel it would be a powerful scene of betrayal, yet inevitable.

Agree Brian Cox is so good. Scene where he is working on Hearst's back had me in stitches.

I would actually hate to think he would have betrayed Al, he seems to be one of the few people Al has genuine affection for. It would have been interesting to have learned more about how they came to be friends and their backstory together. Perhaps that was for s4, ah well.

Not getting a season 4 really has to be considered a crime against humanity

Kidding they could have made 8 seasons of the greatest TV.

Production logistics aside, a season during winter would have been great.

oh yeah, that's a fantastic idea. it was interesting to see the slop of the street during the series (it's no wonder boardwalks were invented), but seeing that series set in the middle of a south dakota winter would have been great.

Still my favorite quote comes from Ellsworth. Could probably do a draft on best quotes.

I think Deadwood is better than The Sopranos.

Sopranos had many bad/boring episodes while Deadwood was 10/10 start to finish.

I think I agree but I won’t put the work in on a Sopranos rewatch to confirm. But I will do another Deadwood marathon before the year is up, so that probably does confirm it lol

I don't know I'll always give the edge to Sopranos, Wire can go **** itself in 4th or 5th.

Agree with this. Sopranos while fantastic thanks to the main leads, also had some pretty weak supporting characters and some often amateurish acting in those roles. Whereas every actor in Deadwood is amazing. I'd probably watch an entire show about any one of the Deadwood characters. I'm not watching a show about Paulie Walnuts or Bobby Bacala.

Deadwood is #1 all time for me and it's not really that close. Wire season 1 and The Leftovers probably 2-3 for me.

Yeah, it’s easier just to say that Deadwood is better than every other show.

I'm doing yet another rewatch of this masterpiece. I've been fighting it all this time not to declare as my favorite show of all time, being that Breaking Bad has meant so much to me. But I can't do it anymore. It's Deadwood. End of story.

That said, as much as I consider it perfection, there is a scene in episode 8 of season 2 where Alma and Miss Isringhausen finally have their standoff. The scene is great and I like that Isringhausen is able to throw a few nice jabs, but something about it... Just seems a bit... Off. Almost like it was an attempt at Milch instead of actually Milch and the Shakespearian influence is a bit too strong. I can't tell if it's the dialogue or the delivery but it takes me out of it. It's quick and painless, but this particular rewatch it really jumped out at me.
