I'm not even from the English-speaking world and I know who 10/19 of those people are. So yes, I'd say it's pretty strange if an Australian doesn't recognize any of them.

But how old are you? A significant number of these people have been irrelevant for 20+ years. Adam Carolla and Penn being the more relevant recent ones, but Carolla hasn't been doing much outside a podcast for a long time.

Cast looks pretty awesome although we're destined for a letdown to some degree after Busey and Canseco.

This is probably the only show I've ever watched where I prefer the celebrity edition to the non-celeb ones. Seeing how completely inept C-list celebs are in everyday situations is hilarious.

Cheryl Tiegs
Only 22, after googling all of these still had no idea who they are.

Then you have legit people who are not famous:
Dayana Mendoza
Patricia Velasquez

Add in Michael Andretti- a niche sports star that gets no attention outside of the US (although he definitely should know his father), Penn Jillette Seen this guys pic a couple of times, heard of the Penn and Teller theatre (somewhat understandable if he doesn't know who he is), and Adam Carolla Seen the man show a handful of times, had to read his wiki to realise he was on it.(no idea how he hasn't heard of him either).

So yeh, thats basically why. Although the Aus version of this is no better, we had to import the hoff to get some ratings.

I only know Lisa Lampanelli from the roasts on comedy central, George Takei cause I listen to Howard Stern, Penn from Penn&Teller and I know Clay Aiken was on AI like 10 years ago. No idea who any of the others are. I am 25.

Because he's 22 and those were things that were made when he was a baby (besides Curb).

He also appears to not pay attention to any celebrity names when he sees them, so he might recognize some when he sees them (like Carolla).

As for only knowing Lampanelli only from the roasts, well duh, that's basically her only claim to fame.

I get the feeling that Lampanelli's offstage persona is actually very friendly and non-confrontational.

Penn Gillette has potential to be good, but I bet he doesn't give a crap and won't work hard.

Debbie Gibson will be the hard-working Summer Sanders type but she will fail because of poor fund raising.

I expect Arsenio to win this thing. He's really smart and I think he still has enough connections that his fund raising ability will be top 2 or 3.

I've never actually seen the show before, except for the first half hour or so of whatever season Richard Hatch was on but I paused it and never got around to watching it again. I have no idea what kind of tactics work to go deep or win.

As awful and non-compelling as the fundraising is, I'm pretty sure on at least one occasion it helped eliminate a famewhore candidate who had no connections with money. Pretty sure it was Omarosa's undoing, and I think it also did in a recent megaannoying female candidate although off the top of my head I can't remember who.
