Buffy the vampire slayer is one of the greatest shows of all time imo, certainly during it's time along with The X files. One of the few shows that could literally make you think, laugh, cry, and afraid all in the same episode. It launched 3 prominent actresses careers, the writing was brilliant, depth of characters was phenomenal, they had tons of awesome guest bands, one of them being The Breeders who covered the theme song.

Buffy was such an influential show, it's insane. The modern vampire craze in television and movies wouldn't exist right now it if weren't for this show. It was never predictable, always exciting, and even did a freakin musical episode that was so brilliantly written and done it's not even funny, and everyone even had the balls to sing their own parts, something many many other shows wouldn't even consider trying.

One of my favorite things about this show is how dark it is. I think the extent it goes just makes the show so much deeper on both emotional and intellectual levels. Throughout the series, several characters that you have seen develop and grown to love die, and it's all very tragic.

This scene where Buffy's mom dies ... I watched this show religiously with my xgf, and she was watching this episode with me when it first aired. Her mom had died when she was 15, so you can imagine what kind of impact this scene had

Out of the many many characters in the show, some I like, many I love, a few I hate. The one character that I hate the most, the character that I absolutely ****ing DESPISE the most, the ONE ****ing pile of filth character that I hate the most, that just sends me into ****ing rage

is Warren

That is probably my single most hated character in all of television, certainly Buffy the vampire slayer. It takes a really great show to make such a loathsome character.

My favorite character in this show is Spike. Spike is such a great character and he and Buffy have such a great dynamic, especially in the later seasons, and Marsters and Gellar have such great chemistry together.

Back when this show was on I recorded a bunch of episodes and I was going through some old tapes a month or two ago and came across an episode and started watching them, and I just had to go out and get all the DVDs. I have season 2-7, all I need is season 1 to have the full series.

One of my favorite shows of all time, one of the greatest shows of all time, and it was even influential to my religion. Here's to Buffy.

Finally a Buffy thread. On a sidenote if you hate Warren so much why not post the video of Dark Willow saying "bored now" in his regards.

One of my favorite shows of all time, I'm still flabbergasted by the S2 Finale.
Favorite character, besides Buffy, is Faith

I thought season 6 was great and the season finale, the ending was absolutely amazing. Spike (a vampire without a soul) had gotten a chip implanted in his brain during season 4 which causes intense neurological pain if he attacks a human, and at the end of season 6 he's fed up with all his problems. Blaming them all on the chip, he leaves Sunnydale to go on a quest to find a demon that could grant him a wish. He finds the demon, goes through the deadly trials successfully and he tells the demon he wants to be like he was and wants to give the slayer what she deserves (wants to kill her) and instead of removing his chip, the demon gives him back his soul (which he lost when he became a vampire)

BAM!

music!

So ****ing great. Such a great ending to that season.

The oooooonly thing I didn't like about the series was the stuff about magic can be harmful and you can lose yourself in it like when Willow was addicted to magic like it was heroin and she was on a binge. It wasn't until the seventh season, the start of it when I felt like the show had really gotten to Wicca and what it was all about. It was beautiful.

oh man that episode was so ****ing great. That's just another of the many episodes that display how brilliantly written and well done the show was. How many continuous minutes were there with no spoken dialogue? Like, a lot. It takes damn good writing to be able to not only carry it that long without a spoken word, but just ****ing drive it home into your ****ing psyche and **** you know

a couple clips from the fourth season episode 'hush'

that last one was a good example of the show's subtle humor.

I think season 6's 'normal again' was one of the best shows of the series. Here we are six years into the show and we have Buffy dancing on the edge between two worlds, one, regular Sunnydale where the show has been for all this time, the other, she's in a mental institution somewhere crazed out of her ****ing gourd, schitzo'd the **** out, living solely inside her mind where she's fancified and created this entire world with vampires and demons and she's created all of her friends and fabricated a sister and she's some sort of super hero called the slayer. During the episode both worlds start to collide as Buffy in both worlds starts to wonder what reality even is ... is she really a vampire slayer in some dark world, or is she just a crazy person in a mental institution? The doctor and her parents in the mental institution finally convince her that she is crazy, and needs to try to snap back into that reality. In order to do so, she has to go back into her normal reality and kill her friends. Finally in the end, she snaps back into reality, and chooses her normal reality and her friends and saves them.

Really great episode.

I don't really remember the movie much, been a long time since I've seen it. I know it doesn't hold a candle to the television series though.

BtVS show is my wife's favorite show of all-time ainec. And she watches TV constantly, as well as movies. Years ago I bought her the entire box set of DVDs for all 7 seasons even though she'd seen them all multiple times. We went to a live outdoor showing of "Once More With Feeling" that Amber Benson attended. There were hundreds of people there and everyone was reciting most of the lines. I don't watch a lot of TV but BtVS is one of very few of her shows that interests me at all so there's that. Oh yeah she also buys the Whedon-executively-produced fan-fiction comics to read.

She also hates the movie and there was a quote online from Joss Whedon that I will try to paraphrase: "I had this great script for a film about high school kids who were normal during the day and one of them slayed vampires at night. It was a great script and I thought it was very original and dark but palatable. The powers-that-be loved the script and greenlit it but then they changed it and turned it into a goofy movie and it lost all of its credibility. I was crushed."

So it sounds like Whedon just had no power back then and had to take it. I don't think the movie was his fault. He went on to say that years later (a few years later) some execs came to him and said something like "we'll let you do a show if you have any ideas" and he said "yeah I have this great idea about a high school girl who slays vampires." and went on to say that he didn't know if it would work in TV format as he'd originally wrote it as a movie but he really wanted to do his script justice so they let him do the TV show and the rest is history.

Show is one of my favorite all time.

I'm pretty sure all seven seasons are available for streaming on Netflix.

Although always losing your friends would never happen anymore (LOL pre cellphone days), one of the best parts of the show was how real the characters and their struggles with different issues of high school and college were. They were able to make light of things when necessary while still showing how deeply traumatic things like break-ups, trying to grow up and make it on your own, and fights with friends can be.

And if you didn't cry when Joyce died, there's something wrong with you.

Hush is one of the few things that has ever scared me. And Im not just talking back then, I rewatched the entire show a couple years ago and it still got me.

Buffy wasnt awesome. It is awesome. Still stands up and is one of the few shows that can call itself perfect and yet it is far too often dismissed as not being edgy. By people who didnt watch the show.

Once More, with Feeling as someone mentioned is another amazing episode. OK so their singing voices werent particularly good, but whatever Joss created a logical musical episode that was also one of the most powerful episodes where the scoobies discover they tore Buffy out from heaven back to earth, the reveal of which still brings a tear to my eye.

About half a year after my mom died, I got it in my head that I wanted to watch "The Body."
It was brutal but so cathartic, it's very obvious that Joss lost someone close to him because the entire episode so perfectly encapsulated the emotions you experience after such an even in your life.
I still just *think* about Anya's speech
Quote:
But I don't understand, I don't understand how this all happens, how we go through this, I mean I knew her, and now she's...there's just a body, and I don't understand how come she just can't get back in it and not be dead anymore. It's stupid! It's mortal! and it's stupid! And Xander's crying and not talking, and I was having fruit punch and I was thinking that well Joyce will never have fruit punch, ever, and she'll never have eggs, or yawn, or brush her hair, not ever, and no one will explain to me why.
And I tear up.
And the scene where Tara tells Buffy that she lost her mom in a way to try and comfort.
Quote:
Buffy: Everybody wants to help. I don't even know if I'm... here. I don't know what's going on. Never done this. (pauses) That's just an amazingly dumb thing to say. Obviously I've never done this before.
Tara (softly, after a pause): I have. My mother died when I was seventeen.
Tara: No, no, I didn't mean to... I'm only telling you this because... I know it's not m-my place, but... (pauses) There's things... thoughts and reactions I had that... I couldn't... understand... or even try to explain to anyone else. Thoughts that... made me feel like I was losing it... or, like I was some kind of ho-horrible person. I know it's different for you... because it's always different, but... if you ever need...
Buffy: Was it sudden?
Tara: What?
Buffy: Your mother.
Tara: No. And yes. It's always sudden.
This. This was perfection.
