Breaking Bad: season 5 Breaking Bad: season 5

The weird thing about E1 was that the laptop problem was introduced and solved in the same episode, normally BB introduces a problem and spends a whole season on various failed attempts to solve it with twists and turns. This one was surprisingly straightforward, Jesse has an idea, they test the idea, they implement the idea.

I loved it. Normally BB's first few episodes are slow and boring because they are just all setup, this time they cut in a sort of mini-plot arc so there was something resolved.

On the lack of wedding ring thing -

Isn't it possible that his alias was unmarried?

This is not true. I know a few widows who don't wear rings.

True but at the same time, it wasnt a problem that they could draw out since realistically it wouldnt take long for the investigators to check the laptop. Also the main point of the problem I guess was to bring Mike back in to action.

How long would it take for current Walt's hair (shaved) to grow out to Denny's Walt's hair length?

Probably like a month and a half

Damn, I came to troll the thread but that's already way played out.

What percentage of the widows that you know don't wear rings? How many widows do you know total?

I don't think 96% vs. 99% is going to matter to users, but by this point the "blue sky" is apparently legendary among meth heads, and I think Gus wants to corner the market with the best product.

what? because huge magnets making **** fly through the air is awesome, that's why.

I think this is the good point. The blueness is more important than the purity. It's a marketing issue.
07-18-2012 , 07:29 PM
the cartel at least cared about the purity quite a bit. they tested the meth for purity and it was at least implied (or possibly explicitly stated) that very bad things were going to happen if he didn't turn out some really good ****.

and for like the 19th time gus killing walt wasn't the difference between 96 and 99 with gale dead. gus did not have another cook that could produce anything close to 96 (well until he learned that jesse could do it) and it took him a long time to even find gale.

I just watched that episode last night and I thought it was clear that Jesse was actually pissed off that it was only 96.2% while everyone was impressed.

Guys, the meth heads can tell.

one of the episodes basically explained why gus went with walt. i think it was one of the episodes after gale got shot in the head.

gale was the one who talked gus into working with walt, by saying something like "you bought all of this equipment, you seem like a guy who wants nothing but the best"

Uh no. Jesse makes a grunting noise and says "Yes".

Just watched that scene again. You are correct and I was drunk.

I actually think what you wanted to see would have been cooler. When the 96.2% number came up, I totally expected Jesse to be disappointed with it, since he wanted to measure up to Walt.
07-19-2012 , 12:15 AM
Well, I don't think Jesse actually knows the exact percentage that Walt's cook is pure (it's not like he keeps a gas chromatograph handy), but he knows 96% is really, really good.

I mean, think of Jesse as Walt's student. Back in Chemistry class, he was always ****ing around and ****ing up, since he barely passed; he was probably getting **** in the 60s. His meth was maybe that pure (hell, he adulterated it on purpose), so here he is, a straight-D student until now, taking the biggest test of his life, and he scores a 96. Yeah, he's pumped.

I made a stupid suggestion. I forgot that Mike was out of the loop recovering in Mexico.

Regarding the discussion on the location of the Denny's, if you watch the Denny's scene from "Boxcutter", which is here:

It's pretty clearly the same one, though some furnishings have changed. Exact same layout, same Valero gas station outside, etc. Also in the first show of the season that year.

The scene from the most recent episode also has a couple of shots where you can see the street address is 2608. A Google search for Denny's 2608 shows two locations. One in California, one in ABQ. Since the waitress asks Walt if he is headed to California, pretty clear that's additional confirmation that he's at the one in ABQ.

And for whoever said "what menu item was that?", look at the Grand Slam, which is also what they give you free on your birthday per the waitress mentioning the free meal. Walt ordered the eggs/hashbrowns/double bacon version of the Make-Your-Own Grand Slam.

Pretty sweet that the opening shot of the season was a plate of breakfast. Walt Jr wins again!
