Hooked on this show. I'm 7/10 done in 3 days of watching. Because it was all released at once, let's use spoiler tag for specifics with an episode # disclaimer above, shall we?

thru ep 7

Spoiler:
what kind of "pro card player" is his ex-wife, exactly?

in!

judge,

don't think it's a spoiler as it's just throw away character background.
it's obv pretty unrealistic but seems as though they were trying to imply she plays the big games in Macau as a prop player for the casino (I say unrealistic as I'm pretty sure the casino doesn't have prop players for the big games but w/e).

loving the show.
any word on a 2nd season and when it might be released?
almost done with season 1 n want moar!

Just funny that they made such a point about her ability to "read people" if she's playing anything other than poker /nit but that's standard hollywoodization of degen

I have read a handful of the Bosch books. Are the episodes based on the plots of the novels, or do they just use the characters and create new storylines? Do the episodes build off each other, or is each stand alone?

Never read any of the books, but I read an interview that said they took plotlines from 3 of the novels for the first season.

Finished the first season over the weekend, and overall I'd say it was good and I'm in for a 2nd season. Titus Welliver kills it (like usual), and Marlo was good as his partner. My one minor gripe was with some of the supporting characters like the ******* captain and his cringeworthy dialogue, or Brasher (I think that was her name?) who seemed far too.....brash for me to take seriously.

This season is based on "City of Bones" and the show is serialized.

Loved the show. I though Titus Welliver as Bosch was really good.

There are elements taken from at least three of the novels so far, maybe even more, it's been a while since I have read them all. I will be interested if they introduce Micky Haller { The Lincoln Lawyer] to the show at any point, given his relationship to Bosch. Love the show btw, thx for starting the thread JH.

first 15-20 min of episode 8

Spoiler:
the captain telling her to file the complaint was pretty dumb. i like this show because it straddles reality and entertainment/fun so well, but that was dumb

edit

Spoiler:
actually there's a lot of stuff not so real when i think about it. oh well still love the show. i'll leave my comment up for discussion, maybe

finished it last night. No real spoiler here but I don't want to influence anyone who hasn't watched by what I say

Spoiler:
I thought the first half of the season was by far superior to the end game

thought it was pretty hilarious how his ex was supposed to be this big time poker shark and when they show her holding her cards she is holding them like the biggest fish of all time.

i literally LOL'd when i saw that.

pretty hilarious how actors always talk about how much they research their roles to "understand them" but she can't watch like 30 secs of poker on TV to learn the most basic part (and they only actual poker related thing they're going to show her doing).
pretty weak sauce.

Was it even poker? Or baccarat?

it was poker (NL).
she was holding both cards up well off the table in front of her face with both hands.
really lol.

Really big fan of the books since the 90's.

Considering Ive had ideas who should play the roles for 20 years, I thought they did really well given the budget on the pilot which aired almost a year ago.

Glad someone made a thread because Id almost forgotten
that they signed on to make it. See talk of a poker playing female which leads me to believe they may be incorporating multiple characters from various points in the series, but i wont go into any more details.

What if she was holding her cards this way to give the impression that she was a fish? You're still on that first level thinking-ish.

Ya, but imagine if they portrayed good poker players the way that they really are. Boring robotic nits that play well within their limits.

are you arguing just to argue?
they showed her at the poker table for like 2 seconds.
seems like you haven't even seen the scene and you're just arguing for no reason.

I still think she was playing baccarat . Provide screen shots. Rich Asians play that not pokers

Liked it. In for season two. I think the over-the-top dialogue is intentional, the show very much isn't supposed to be "real".

Bosch is such a badass he lives in LA and doesn't even lock his damn house.
