All of episode 9 is a dream/flashback/flashforward mess in John's oxygen deprived head while he is recovering from a suicide attempt. We can't tell what is real and what isn't and it does absolutely nothing to advance the show or resolve anything which is pretty lol for the second to last episode of a show. Episode 10 still has some of this twin peaks garbage going on but does actually resolve some stuff. If you have watched the whole season you might as well watch 10 just to wrap it up. 9 can easily be skipped and you'll be better for it.
Spoiler:
Alright cool, tyty. Guess I'll watch tonight. Only just learned now that the thing that ended ep8 was a suicide attempt. Wtf at the execution? I thought it was most likely to be a weird dream sequence.

haha wtf dude, why would you watch 28 hours of a show and then ask someone to tell you what happens in the last two. just watch!

There were some good moments in eps 1-8 but the writing was already super lousy and everything seemed super pointless. If not for Kyle Chandler and the gorgeous setting I woud have stopped after ep 1.
yep, agree with this fwiw, read my long post in spoiler tags above when done.

still think this show is a solid 'one and done' recommendation. ideally tell them to stop 15 seconds before the S1 finale ends!

1 >>> 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> 3

Finally finished it. Season 3 never really got going and was fairly boring from the start. It took an absolute nosedive at ep 9. We stopped watching ep 9 halfway through.

On the weekend I found out a friend also watches the show and had seen it all. Told him we're halfway through 9 and had to stop because it was garbage. He agreed 9 was garbage and suggested we skip the rest and go to the finale because it's really good. Of course we couldn't bring ourselves to skip it, but really wish we did. Seriously, skip ep 9 if you're reading this and haven't seen it yet. I disagree with my friend and I think the finale was also crap.

I think s3 would've been much better with a more defined ending. Likely that they all go to jail. I thought it was going to be really interesting if

Spoiler:
O'bannon got off and then there were charges against Meg and she was either found guilty or Kevin/John had to step up and confess. It looked like it was going that way but then they decided to do something much more stupid.

Spoiler:
given that Kevin ended up going to jail anyways...

it would've been much better for the trial to take a turn and have Chelsea testify without getting fired from her job, and to have the Rayburns get ****ed publicly through the trial. instead of the whole fleeing to Cuba thing. woulda been much more exciting and dramatic. that's what I thought we were getting after sally testified, but then it just fast forwarded into bull**** instead. I can understand doing what they did if they wanted a happy ending, but since Kevin got ****ed anyways I don't see why they wouldn't use the trial to do it

Agree that the last two eps sucked balls. What a ****ty way to end a solid series.

Sally: who were you with?
John: Mike, ya know, Mike Gallagher.
Sally: nope, ive been watching since the beginning and Im pretty sure that's not a character.

wtf
My God, this. I've been trying to watch ep9 for about a week and am only maybe 20 minutes in. I simply can't believe they went this direction in the penultimate episode. Actually, I hate this episode so much I'm probably done with the series. I don't think I've ever turned on a show based on one episode like this; I was actually enjoying S3 just fine until this disaster.

I thought the first 7 or so eps of Season 3 were good. I just love this show, because I love the characters so much.

Spoiler:
Episode 9 threw me for a total loop. And the whole end felt rushed and unsatisfying. Meg just disappearing? No explanation for John's split from his wife, except after the fact? The Ozzy character (who they spent a lot of time developing pretty well) just randomly shoots himself for no reason? Disappointing end to an otherwise fantastic show.
Perhaps they should have just stopped after Season 1 after all, although I was a fan of Season 2.

I just skipped ep9 and watched the final one. Poor. I'll keep up the spoiler tags I guess, most of my complaints have already been covered by others.

Spoiler:
Am I the only one that was getting a strong vibe that they were trying to imply Beau Bridges was Kevin's actual father? I know the affair between him and Sissy Spacek they brought up (out of nowhere like so much else in the finale) was supposedly when Kevin was a child, but there were other shots/dialogue that made me think they were going to reveal that. Total ****show at the end, they must have been very rushed to end it.

Wow just finished this, entire S3 was a trainwreck. What a massive drop-off from S1.

Meg just disappears for months, no one really seems to give a ****, turns out she's reinvented herself as an LA hipster? John somehow finds her, tells her to come back for the trial, she says no, John just says OK and leaves, O'Bannon pleads guilty anyway , Meg jogs in West Hollywood or wherever in the finale, no one cares. I knew this season was doomed with the laughable scene of Sally talking to dead air/silent Meg on the phone.

On a related note, Sally... holy **** her character was like ambien in human form. As soon as Sissy Spacek starts rambling on in that annoying voice, my eyes would start closing.

Cuban guys were laughable stock villains and lol at Roy Gilbert just randomly dying off-camera. Leguziamo just showed up on people's doorsteps occasionally, said some weird stuff about the clock ticking, and walked away. Then he killed himself. Completely pointless. All the courtroom scenes were terrible, O'Bannon's public defender was so bad, sounded like she was reading off cue cards as she delivered her lines. The jury crying at Sally's testimony, and everyone acting as if her story somehow sealed the case against O'Bannon, was ridiculous.

Scenes with his old buddy Mike from Baah-ston were so out of left field. Who is this guy and where did he come from? Why does his Boston accent come and go? Are he and his wife swingers who come down once a year to hook up with John and his hot wife?

I guess at the end John finally does drown himself, perhaps after he confesses to Noel, at least that's how I interpreted it... esp. since Danny tells John, "just breathe through it", which can be taken 2 ways.

Only saving grace in the final 2 eps was it reminded me how much better this show was with Ben Mendehlson in it. The rivalry between John and Danny was the crux of the show, once it became about idiot Kevin's drug deals and a bunch of scenes with Sally getting drunk and boring everyone to tears, it went straight downhill.
