So was I right in watching Hostages over this?

Bad guys sure had quite the elaborate kidnapping plan considering they shouldn't have known fbi were showing up..

Overall thought this was pretty good. Better than Hostages.

Out. My lasting memory of this show will be just how ****ing stupid it was to use air support to help pick up girl for work (in a black SUV), but not to use it later. You know, when they were trying to thwart the terrorist plot. I was dying as the zodiacs were pulling away thinking about how the chopper was re-fueling after it's earlier, much more important mission. If this is the "best new show" or whatever we're in for some historic garbage.

Im in. Easy watching tv for 42 mins, where you dont really need to think at all.

Spader must be one of the fastest moving humans though for it to take so long for Brody's former best friend to be able to catch up to "him"

I expect this show to have way too many annoyingly frustrating things. Just constantly teasing the viewer. I may give it one more ep but don't really want to get into it.

Not really a fan of spader either. I think it's his smirk.

I enjoyed it and I'll keep watching, but that doesnt necessarily make it particularly good.

There were a few logical flaws but I thought the concept was good enough to lock me in for a few eps.

Pretty bad script, questionable acting especially from the lead actress who kinda sucks (maybe she's got an excuse because of the script), gave the sensation of a bad 24 mixed with Revolution.

Ya i got the revolution sense... Why i think i'll just quit now.

24&revolution?

I thought it was a bad copy of white collar+suits mix

watched this and Hostages back to back and I think Hostages has more potential

This is a really unsophisticated show, but it's definitely entertaining enough to watch. With all the clumsy foreshadowing in the show, I don't see how there's any way he's not her father. The way I think it would be (based on how the show is written) is that he banged her mom, while she was with someone else, to give separation from the idea that she's really his daughter (raised by another father). This show is also very geared to the masses, so I expect it to have lasting power. Its ratings were huge, as well.

housenuts, sounds like you've never gotten over Pretty in Pink...

I really hope she's not his daughter because otherwise I quite enjoyed it even though a lot of it's pretty paint-by-numbers. In particular, they've set Spader up as a walking Dues Ex Machina which is going to get old.

No idea what you're talking about.

As for her being the daughter I think it's guaranteed. There was a quote right near the start and it was obvious. I'm not sure if the writers/directors of this show are on the level where they'd mislead.

Spader was a grade A a-hole in the movie Pretty in Pink. He was a colossal villain to many people who grew up in that era. Amazing that you haven't seen it, but okay, I guess that means I'm really old...lol.

Agree that the writing is such that misdirection isn't a big thing for them. What I do think is their plan is for Spader to manipulate the FBI into committing crimes for him, or something like that.

I figured it was going to be case of week type of show before I started which is fine since I enjoy these shows. The blacklist part is a tiny twist something like hawaii 5-0 doesn't have and Spader made in fun to watch.

he demanded her so she kinda needs to work with him.

I deleted that because I was sort of live blogging it while I was watching it on hulu, and in the scene after it they mention she was under "official review". In reality she'd be manning a desk far away, but I can suspend belief.

to me it seems like he was always a good guy who realized that he could do more good when being outside the law. now he is back, knows every bad guy personally, knows how they work and think and will turn them in one by one to his daughter who in return gets to move up the foodchain at an insane pace.

edit: oh also he is all buddy buddy with the bad guys too, so he can get them to do stuff for him (like seriously hurting his daughter's secret agent(criminal?) boyfriend/husband)

Haven't watches Blacklist yet - got it pvred..

Hostages was laughingly bad, the lamest plot possible.
Sure they expect her to to the hospital and calmly pull off what they want her to do.
omg

Hmm.. that could be interesting. But it sounds like he has facilitated a lot of death and destruction to get to this point. I don't know...

I thought the pilot was fine. Nothing sophisticated, but it's fun enough to watch. I won't go out of my way to watch it , but I'm sure it'll be good to kill an hour here and there.

Hostages managed to be even more preposterous than The Blacklist even though it takes itself more seriously.

I expected to hate this but simply disliked it. I despise Spader so I am biased going in. I might watch one more just to be sure but it seems to cutesy for me and yeah he is obviously her father.

I used to hate him. But I love him in Boston Legal.

The Blacklist was a bit disappointing.

When they had the little girl, and the guy with the stop sign was making them take a different route...
I had no doubt the kidnapping was about to happen and no one seemed to be the least bit concerned.

I'll try another episode or two and see if I get interested.
