I'm undecided on this show. I love the pirate setting and the color of the water, and some of the characters look cool (plus boobies), but it's a bit too much soap opera, non-stop backstabbing, you know the main characters are all going to survive, theme park style television. When the very first scene was a high budget fight on the open seas I thought "they are blowing their load right off the bat!" but I didn't think it would be so egregious that they'd stay on land for the next 3.9 episodes at least. I could get into a shallow show (since I don't watch any currently) but not if it's going to be a show about pirates falling in love and hanging out on the docks.

I like it. Definitely fills a whole. Billy the British guy is horrendous though. Could they not have got someone who at least acted or looked a bit piratey for this main character? Vance or whatever the other captain is who had his boat taken away is perfect

Finally got some proper pirating. I do find the politics of pirates interesting though.

I liked episode 5, the next one should also be good.

I didn't like the first episode all that much. I put it off and then binge watched the next five episodes. It's gotten much better imo.

Who was the giant Vain went to see? Also for some dumb reason I don't think that's the last we see of Billy.

I agree we haven't seen the last of Billy, maybe Charles Vane finds him on his journey?

I think the hooker storyline has ended, she will still be a part of the show but that arc is over with.

I would be shocked that Billy is gone for good.

Honestly, I have not. I am aware Long John Silver has a much bigger part but not sure of Billy or Vane etc. Although Vane is a real guy.

I haven't, I don't know any characters really. I have heard of Blackbeard and Long John Silver.

Now I will read up a little on Treasure Island.

I remember watching the 1990 version of Treasure Island, just looked it up on wikipedia and holy **** Christian Bale is Jim Hawking!!!!!

Maybe don't if you want the show to be fresh? I mean I don't think it ruins anything really but there really isn't much of a point to knowing what happens in Treasure Island.

Calico Jack Rackham and Anne Bonny are also famous real pirates.

This type of show is ruined if I get spoilered, I kind of would like to know a little more about the people involved.

Show is ok though...like that there was some actual pirating going on...worth the watch IMO but nowhere near GOAT 2014

Yeah I'm not even sure I'm willing to call it "good" exactly. I'll give it leeway and watch at least this season (and almost surely the next as long as things don't take too awful a turn) because I like the subject matter so much. But really it kind of drags pretty frequently and I don't really care about the characters too much. Contrast that with say Vikings, where there's like four real solid interesting characters. Everyone here is kind of a meh blur to me at this point. But, pirates, so I'll keep watching.

So is the guy that demanded Guthrie to reinstate Vane, Capt. Hornigold, he was pretty infamous as well.

Edit: I agree the show isn't great much less goat. It's not bad though and has the potential to be much better if they can work the kinks out.

That was my favorite movie during my childhood. It's such a underrated movie, anyone who like pirate stuff should definitely make sure to watch it. Much better pirate portrayal than in any other stuff I've seen although there's not much to compare to.
