just rewound and it sounded exactly like this

also Ernie was probably a little more freaked out there than the scene called for

I actually found Ernie's reaction understandable. Having personal experience with a disabled person lashing out at a caretaker, I can attest that such an experience is quite unnerving.

Ernie's been tacitly running cover for Jimmy, so realizing Chuck has J's voice on the tape hit Ernie like a ton of bricks.

I would be much happier with less chuck, like a lot less

Maybe I'm missing something, but what I don't understand about that ep:

Spoiler:
Why wouldn't he just change the battery there on the spot instead of taking the bug back?

Either way, solid return!

I'm guessing he took the whole cap back because it was quicker

I thought the same thing then figured it is just a lot faster and less can go wrong. If they change it on the spot, they need a screwdriver to pop the cap open, light to see what they are doing, noise of being outside and popping the cap open could all get u caught.

Yeah that's a good point. I suppose they stand to lose next to nothing by taking it back and returning it in a couple of hours or the next night.

this episode sucked, so much pointless time wasting, redundancy, and unnecessary prolonging of "cliffhangers". i know the show creators like to masturbate all over themselves with their artsiness and subtlety, but it really makes for boring TV watching

i also get quite tired of thinking "what is he doing right now? oh, guess i'll find out in like 10 minutes", but now they've taken it a step further with chuck hatching this little revenge plot and the stupid scene with ernie. there was absolutely nothing incriminating or useful at all on that tape recorder that ernie would have heard, yet he looks terrified and chuck is freaking out about how YOU CAN'T TELL ANYBODY, ZOMG. ernie walks out and now chuck is smiling like he's such a brilliant manipulator, BUT WHAT IS HE UP TO?!!??!? i just find myself rolling my eyes like "oh boy, this **** again?" and i prepare myself to learn nothing for the rest of the episode while they segue their way into the same cut and paste mystery formula with mike

i get it, you want to be suspenseful and what not, but there's a point where the show moves so slowly that it just becomes obnoxious

I assumed they just put a new bug in on the spot and switched it out. I guess that would lead to them still being able to track Mike though on his now drive to wherever the "old' bug is leading him too.

also, a bit curious on what Chuck's intentions are now? He seemed satisfied with Ernie over hearing the tape recorder but what exactly is his end game with this play?

They can't track Mike since he threw the new gas cap (and bug) on the curb.

And from their point of view the bug they took from Mike's car can no longer be tracked because the battery is dead. Presumably it doesn't ping their own receiver because Mike set it to a different frequency. Although you would think it would be possible to detect that the bug is still emitting some kind of signal (like in the movies when someone sweeps a room for bugs).

it's poor writing and directing to even leave any of this nuance about how tracking devices function up to the viewer, who is presumably just trying to relax in front of the tv for an hour on a monday night without re-watching the episode and spending extra time, brainpower, and google searches in an effort to figure out wtf is going on

I think the lack of exposition shows a lot of respect for the viewer's intelligence. There are plenty of shows that have lots of exposition if that's what you're into.

It was explained perfectly fine...visually.

i guess i'm just not captivated by watching mike silently take apart a car and various gadgets for 20 minutes, spending half the time wondering "wtf is he doing/looking for?"

to each his own i guess. been a big fan of this show up until this point but i feel like its grasp on me is slipping

A few thoughts:

We finally heard dialogue (and a semblance of plot) in Omaha. Think we'll see Gene again before the opening of S4?

Nice to see that the "connected" vet is concerned about Mike's dog.

Kim's obsessing about proper punctuation is depressingly familiar.

What's going to replace the rainbow?

In the last episode of S2 Mike set out to kill Hector Salamanca in the desert. While he's setting up the shot, someone left a stick wedged against his steering wheel (against his horn) with a note "DON'T"

Seemed pretty obvious he was trying to find out how he was tracked and then get to the source of the note.

On Chuck setting the tape to play for Ernesto. Ernesto lied for Jimmy when he turned up at the copy shop after Chuck collapsed. Ernesto is obviously going to tell Jimmy about the presence of the tape, sending Slippin' Jimmy into motion.

Thus setting the groundwork for the season to come.

My only problem with the show is the long hiatus between seasons

Was i the only one lost throughout the whole episode?

They switched it out with a new gascap and Mike took it off and threw it behind the wall so he could leave without them knowing.

So you don't think Chuck knows that Ernie will go back to Jimmy...it seems like that was all a rouse for him to pass that along to Jimmy. Chuck already said he had no intentions of using it in court or elsewhere, so what other purpose would it serve than Jimmy. I highly doubt the batteries really needed changing out, that was all done specifically for Ernie to hear that.

Ahhhh, well that just makes a lot more sense, missed that completely - thanks.
