What did you like about it, and were you a fan of the movie Psycho?

Well-acted, well-paced. I like Vera a lot. I'm really into psychological thrillers which I'm sure plays into it, like the other poster said.

Not a huge fan of Psycho, but to me they're apples and oranges anyway, like trying to compare Smallville to a Superman film.

my DVR cut off the last ~15sec, did it reveal who was tied up?

No, it was some headless woman with a bunch of needle marks (meaning they didn't show above the neck). The presumption is it is the woman from the book Norman was looking at.

first episode was OKAY at best. Didn't get me to fall in love i'll watch another episode just because i have some hope it will be good. Would be nice if they had a hannibal teenager? i always liked child killer movie/tv shows.

I'm enjoying this so far. It's not brilliant, but it's interesting. I'm not that familiar with the source material. I don't like this alternate revenue angle. Ok, not entirely true - I do like the notebook, not the pot.

I just watched the second episode, and thought it was a large improvement over the first in just about every way. I still am really bothered by Norman's character development. There's just no way the guy we see here ends up as the guy in Psycho.

I would probably like the show better if it were the same story (not using Psycho characters/universe), but I doubt I'd watch the show if it weren't in that universe as the show, to me, is really only compelling as a character study of Norman and to a lesser extent Norma. I think I'll probably give it 6 episodes before giving up on it, as there should be plenty of development on Norman by then. If they're still progressing this slow with Norman's evolution by then, it's not ever going to get better. In the second episode he did try to kill his brother, so I guess that's supposed to show us that even though he seems sort of normal, he's really not (the book he's looking at also tells us this). It's just not that well done. I think the CF sidekick is an abnormal addition to the universe, where he meets someone with a love for the macabre that is likely eventually going to push him in a very bad direction.

The show just barely works (works a lot better if you can get past the character development problems of the show vs. the movie universe), but the ratings are very good for it. It could be around awhile.

I love this series! Really looking forward to the character development of Norman from shy normal kid to psychopathic killer.

End of ep 3 and they are doing a good job at developing the psycho side of Norman and the screwed up relationship with the mother. Not sure about the side plots but so far I like the show.

I wasn't really feeling episode 3, at all. The character development of Norman to Psycho went from 0 to 10 in the episode, and there's just no way it should be moving that fast after they have taken so much time to get it going.

Nice job, also, on the miraculous healing of Norman's black eye, even though the show appeared to be taking place literally the next day after the pot farm discovery. The side stuff is really the only interesting thing about the show, to me, right now. Things I find kind of interesting or odd are listed below.

1. Developing love triangle between Bradley/Norman/Emma that will probably result in Emma's death (so tilting how she just banged her oxygen tank up those steps...lol).

2. The Sheriff probably is not a bad guy, despite it appearing he was at the start (this is a guy whose justice is apparently being torpedoed at every turn, so that would probably jade you as well...lol). It's now obvious that the Deputy is definitely a bad guy.

3. What is the deal with the sex slave? Why is this happening? Why do the events of the town have to be so important in the shaping of Norman's psychosis? I just don't buy it.

4. Don't really dig the apparently strange town. It's almost like apologizing for the behavior of Norman Bates, while completely disregarding that the guy from the movie has major mommy issues (shown), has probably had sex with her (not shown), that he has a major sex dysfunction (sort of shown), not sold on the seeing things angle, and that he obviously has a very violent temper when pushed (a key aspect difference between the movie and the show is that Norman has never lashed out at his mother, despite her being the whole reason he kills). The character of Norman in the movie was clearly someone who was very effed up from a young age, and I'm just not buying this whole victim of circumstance, and his turn happening at 17. I also feel like the brother is a completely unnecessary and unbelievable character in the universe, but I guess every show needs some kind of bizarro moral compass (broken to helping in about 3.5 seconds in this case).

Pete, you're joking right? I would put this right in the same tier as The Americans, and I go back and forth daily on which is better, as both have highly flawed writing, but threaten to turn into a really good show weekly.

Anyone else creeped out by old lady version of the daughter from American Horror Story 1? So eerie how two people who look so different look so similar. I guess the younger will have a pretty good idea what she'll look like at 38.

You can't really see it as much in that picture, but it's almost every time I look at Norma I see that character from American Horror Story as an old lady.

No shock at all. They could have announced it last week, or even the week before. Encores of the premiere episode beat a Psych original that same week. Maybe A&E is going to be able to entice more pretty good shows to the network with the success of the reality shows they have (allows them to give more budget). Bates Motel is easily the best quality actual scripted series (not including the old miniseries they used to have) I've seen that's been on A&E.
