No thread for this yet?
Neil Gaiman's American Gods show premiered yesterday.

Knowing nothing about the source material, I'm still undecided if I find everything in the premiere ridiculous or ridiculously good.

I liked it. Didn't read the novel, but am a huge fan of Gaiman's Sandman, which uses similar motifs. It's a bit gorier than I expected, but with stuff like the Viking intro, the plane scene or the Leprechaun bar fight it's very much like I imagined a TV show based on Gaiman material.

It's by far my favorite Gaiman book, but I'm a bit skeptical at how well it can be translated to TV. First ep seemed OK tho, so hoping for the best.

I really liked it. I read the book a while ago, and remember thinking at the time it might may a cool show.

Very solid cast too, so looking forward to more of it. I think they went a bit OTT but I guess that's because it's the premiere.

First, the intro credits were freaking awesome. I am not sure what to think of the show, I don't know anything about the source material but I will watch the entire season unless it goes south fast.

I like high concept, but this might be stretching it for me. I've got this in my "wait to see what others say about the entire season" bucket.

I could watch Ian McShane read a phone book for 10 hours and be entertained, so i'm in for the full ride. My Wife is a giant Gaiman mark, so i'm invested regardless. Casting seemed great, i like a lot of Bryan Fullers stuff too.

I loved the asthetic and over the topness, the settings and everything. Effects and make up seem fun too.

I'm stoked.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Opening episode was ok, casting seems decent. This won't be an easy thing to translate to screen though. I feel like this is the type of book that TV trainwrecks 9 times out of 10. Still, first episode was good so hopefully they keep it up.

I have a friend that used to say Sean Connery was so good he'd watch him in gay porn, but that's about as well put as I've ever seen my own feelings on Ian McShane. I'm going to start using that. I've enjoyed him in some bad stuff outside of Deadwood, but it's really a treat if he finds himself with quality material.

Well I have no idea what to make of episode one. I'm in though.

After 2 episodes I'm still not sure what to make of it, and I read the book.

That opening scene of episode 2 sure was something.

The opening scene of episode 3 reminded me very much of Sandman. Overall a visually stunning episode. That show sure is a trip; I felt like coming out of meditation today.

Does this only run on Amazon, or also on TV somewhere? Because I can't imagine that Jinn stuff flying on American TV.

It's on Starz, which is a premium cable channel. Full frontals of well hung Djinns are allowed.

I really dislike over-the-top explicit nudity. It was really pointless in Game of Thrones and it is really pointless in American Gods. Other than that, I'm liking this show. Bank heist was pretty funny although I do feel bad for the regular people they stole.

Absolutely love the opening scenes with a different god the last two episodes. Both really well done. Am enjoying the show very much although I don't think we are really getting a sense of how much of a grifter Wednesday is in the show compared to the book.

That bathroom scene was pretty damn great.

Last night's ep was my favorite thus far. His wife is sexy, crazy, and hilarious. Nice balance to the excessively long gay sex scene the prior week. That was blech.

They're doing a much better job translating from book to TV than I was expecting. I'm really liking this show.

Ian McShane fans - if you haven't seen it already I thoroughly recommend you watch the movie Sexy Beast. His performance in it is amazing.

I think I missed the point of the entire Essie story. I thought it would somehow connect to Dead Wife, but I missed it if that ever happened.

Interesting that they seem to be saying that Wednesday had Dead Wife killed. At least if I understood that scene the right way.

Yes, they are implying that, I can see how it could be missed though. I'm glad I've read the book, as much as I'm enjoying the show it would be tough to follow if you hadn't read the book.

Looks like they've decided to give the wife a larger role than in the book. Interesting to see how far they go with that.

I didn't mind the episode but I thought it was a waste of time. I like the leprechaun but he had like 2 minutes of screen time. Seems like they could have found a better way to incorporate his back story.
