Short stack in Plo 1k+ Short stack in Plo 1k+

Hi guys,

I would like to get some information about playing short stack and how to counter it.

I will do my best to explain my thought (sorry in advance for my bad writting I still got a lot of work to do)

I'm a plo 5 cards player(I do not play the great game of pot limit omaha for cards at all) I just reached plo 600 and I hope I will join plo1k soon

Every time I look at the table of plo5 1k or plus I see that a lot of regs prefer to play short stack even if there is a fish playing deep stack and I do not understand why.

Most of those regs do not play under plo5 1k so I never played against them but I believe or I know for some due to their name that they are really strong plo 4 cards players.

I know that at equal skill level player with the shortest stack got an advantage because in case of multiway all in scenario, player with big stack will keep figthing while the short stack is all in (and "protected")

Is this effect so "powerfull" that you should choose not to cover the fish or at least play with 100 bb.

What do you guys think about playing short stack in plo 1k+? Do you know where I could find some strategy about it (mostly to counter it I love playing deep stack).

Any idea regarding this subject would be really valuable

Gl at the tables

The higher you play, the less rake is a factor. So a small edge can actually translate in a positive Win rate, while at low stakes this small edge is "eaten" up by the higher rake you play (as a lot less pots get well above the rake cap threshold).

There are a lot of different things to consider that just big stacks battling and pushing each other out. For example, if you're short and 3 bet 8% in a certain spot, you could just about fill it with your top 8% while you have to balance if you are sitting deep. Or you could sometimes successfully open smaller. Or if you open large sitting early, it is much less likely that big stacks in position over call your opening range. I'm sure if you think about it for 10 minutes, you will find many things change, some for the better and some for the worse.

Thank you joeri ! Do you play plo 5cards?

"if you're short and 3 bet 8% in a certain spot, you could just about fill it with your top 8% while you have to balance if you are sitting deep"

I knew this concept about omaha 4 cards, do you think it has a big impact in plo 5 cards where if we got 100bb I think we should never fold to 3 bet (I believe we should in plo4 cards sometimes)? With shorts stack involve I guess we would have to fold our bad KKXXX pre against 3 bet but I do not see myself folding other hand that would be strong enought to call an open.

The point is getting 3 bet and even if the open raiser 4 bet it is way less an issue than in plo4. But obviously something to take into consideration!

"if you open large sitting early, it is much less likely that big stacks in position over call your opening range"

Thanks it is something I hadn't thought about it. I will have to figure out how much scared I should be about getting 3 bet or squeez by a short stack.

So I guess we can also increase our opening range in EP and MP when short got position on us (because they won't be able to use it effectively). And ofc decrease our opening range on the CO and BTN when short are on the blinds.

"Do you know where I could find some strategy about it (mostly to counter)" I think I would start taking shoot at 1k and see what happen
