personally i would start in melbourne and travel up along the east coast to byron bay or the gold coast and from there either keep heading up the coast or head inland,i'd def be spending like couple days to 1 week from bottom to top in,

melbourne,sydney,newcastle (prob just drop in here),port macquarie,scotts head (grew up here and this is the best place on earth),coffs harbour,yamba might be worth a visit for a day,byron bay/lennox heads,don't go to nimbin even if you smoke pot (too many junkies and the dope is rope) gold coast is a really cool place,personally don't like brisbane but would prob go there cause its a capital city cairns is a whole dif world your in the tropics and have the great barrier reef to go explore. those are the sorta places you want to be visiting if you went from bottom to top.
google any of those places and figure out what you want to do,theres prob hundreds of interesting places to visit in between.
