I'm currently know of this 5/10 game buyin 500-5k which has a rake structure of 5% capped at $12. There is no rake preflop. How good must the game be for you to be interested in playing?

OP, I'm guessing you haven't played much live poker. That's the best rake structure I've seen.

For reference, there are 1/2/5 games being spread in Melbourne with a $400 - $1k buy in that have 10% rake capped at $15, and they rake preflop.

Just asking the general public cause this rake system is almost 4x cap your Average online site today, but like second poster said, house games in general do rake that much. Just wanna know if these games are beatable and if yes how bad do players have to be

just play it and find out for yourself. the players will be bad and $12 max rake is a non factor if people are buying in for $5K

I think you should worry less about the rake and worry more about your own personal image if you wanna be invited back to this game. A private game 5-10, 5k buyin with 5% 12$ capped rake is pretty much the nuts

I totally agrre, but it's max 5k, it's not like everyone buys in for that much. I would say average stack sizes are around 2k+

Agree w/ other posters, its not bad at all, normally you would pay time at these stakes.. depending on game speed rake could save you a little money

$7/30mins at the casino for this game in most places i assume? u think that could possible be worse than a rake of 5%/$12 cap per pot?

7/30 would be low imo, I'd expect 10 or more in most places

We pay $30 an hour, which works out cheaper than rake.

I've played some dodgy private games with similar rake structures but obviously if you're playing against a table of recreational players this isn't a issue since your hourly is still pretty big.

not bad sydney has 10% rake capped at $10 with $5 an hour for time. $10 for time in bigger games

Can confirm a few of the regs at Star City 5/5/10+ are long term winners.

Your playing style will have some effect on how much rake you pay, but here is how I would break it down. Thoughts on my analysis?

$240 pot in order to hit the cap. In a a standard splashy loose passive 5/T game, I imagine a vast majority of pots hitting the cap. So assume $12 per pot.

Average 3 pots per hour (not sure if this is a good estimate or not, I play pretty nitty in FR PLO so my number would be lower)

= $36 rake paid per hour.

Compare this to a more traditional $5 to $10 cap, where hourly rake paid is $15-$30. Or compare to a time charge as described above of around ~$20 an hour

Somewhere between 1bb and 2bb per hour difference and I think this is a high estimate.

Definitely beatable.... for how how much depends on lineup your skill etc etc.

Rake is split between you and your opponents, so probably you will pay between $3-4 dollars per hand on average, also accounting for rare times they don't take full or you win pre-flop

3 hands per hour seems low, but if he is playing no more than 10-12 hands per hour he probably isn't overpaying very much, if playing 15+ hands a hour or game is short-handed that's when he should be concerned / doing more analysis at the table

If game does become short-handed and you discuss with host discretely its quite likely they will make some accomodations

I apologise by not adding this in before. This is an online game, and winner pay rake system

depends how bad the players are
1/2 nl is beatable with even the lowest raked places basically taking 2 bb per hand
i'd rather play a great 5/5 plo game with a 12 dollar rake than a **** 5/5 plo game with a low rake
