Looks like they got an accurate representation of the poker playing demographic.

from the video: 640 000 people consider themselves professional poker players?

there is no way that can be close to reality.

(and yes I mean that not that many consider themselves pros, not just are or arent pros)

My guess would be in the low 4 digits worldwide.

Anyone can miss 2 orders of magnitude, no biggie

Yeah I always figured it to be 1-2k actually making their sole living from playing poker, sure there's a few thousand on top who make money from poker but lose after their lifestyle, or make money playing part-time and have some other source of income or whatever, and then thousands of times that many combined who have gone on a hot run and call themselves pro or whatever

I very much enjoyed 2m2mm, but I think this show has a lot more potential to be popular and find some mainstream appeal than that poker reality show did.

1k seems way too low to me. Think of all the rakeback pros, Russian and Chinese grinders, live-pros in various locales, etc. There's close to a 1,000 SNE's on pokerstars per year, aren't there?

Like I said, a low 4 digit number.

Having looked at the trailer, it looks to me like "jersey shore idiots play poker". Kinda follows the Bilzerian narrative that's getting built up.

Once you get past the initial contempt for these people, you can appreciate how great it is for poker. The more of this demographic joins in, the better for the poker economy.

I'd like to know whose ass he pulled that 640k figure though

Crashwhips is right, Wazz wrong. Loads of short stacking eastern euro grinders etc on the live scene, I think including mtt'ers and stuff has to be more than 1k online alone.

Yeah. I think there are a ton of rb grinders/small stakes live "pros" who are in no way crushing anything or making huge money, but that's their sole source of income. I'd comfortably take the over on 2500 ppl.

i think you might even have over 2500 people in the WSOP ME that consider themselves professionals

My random guess would be around 10k professionals.

People who consider themselves professionals =/= professionals

I'd imagine at least 10% of SNE players and general high volume players are actually either losing money before rakeback or not making enough to survive and are lucky not to be broke; a lot of people have other incomes as well.

Imo the definition for poker pro is that you make most of your income from poker.

Many lawyers and truck drivers have other incomes and they still are lawyers and truck drivers.

My random guess would be somewhere between 5k and 10k professional pokerplayers in the world, closer to 5k than 10k. Don't forget there are a lot of people from third world countries that are 'pro' which earns them enough to be ballers in their own countries.

Then there's also livepro's.
