Does anyone know of any articles or threads about this? Is it possible to be favorite as the guy getting 4 cards. Heads up cash.

I have a long standing offer from a friend to play HU where he gets 5 cards and I get 4. The catch is that I get position every hand. Any chance you can get that same deal? Related I haven't found anything else that would help with this, but if your always 5 cards vs. 4 without any other advantages it's a pretty big hill to climb so I wouldn't take it unless against an uber fish.

If you're asking the question then you're probably not going to be a favorite.

I've personally challenged certain regs to play me in this format with me having the btn every time and they turn me down.

I think the player who is naturally better at adapting to new game formats (regardless of whether he's the one with 5 or 4 cards) will probably have an edge, assuming that you're equally skilled.

Assuming equal skill, the massive equity edge having an additional card would greatly outweigh the EV of having position every hand.

this statement is true but would be affected by two factors)

1) the actual skill level of the two competitors: i.e. galfond vs sauce would be a closer match than two recreational players

2) the stack depth. again, two highly skilled players playing super deep would create an environment where the five-card advantage would lessen.

I'm pretty sure stack-depth wouldnt matter that much. Strategy for BB would be just play small-ball, call down a lot and let the equity advantage take care of the rest. If the stacks are flying in at somepoint, guess who is more likely to have the better wrap or topset.

Hmm interesting I was thinking the opposite- SB wants to play small ball because they are usually behind preflop and will whiff more flops, they'd rather have more chances to use their positional advantage later in the hand. BB wants to get money in preflop when they know they are ahead and pick up a lot of pots barreling the flop, where SB needs to play a little more honest than usual vs the card advantage.

I'm sure my strategy would be +ev and pretty easy to execute even if was worse player, but I can see how 3betting a ton would be even more +ev, if you are as good as your opponent postflop.
