I think there's a human element to consider here too. Most people aren't robots that can always play their best game and push through soul crushing downswings. When we start talking about bankrolls in the hundreds of buy-ins, I think it becomes much more likely that you quit playing for psychological reasons than going broke, which means the excess bankroll $ is essentially wasted.

Well said, very often it depends more on psychological issues (over a long stretch) than anything else. Except you are winning constantly....

I would assume if you had $50k (100BI), it does not have to be in cash. Specifically, putting $25k into an investment i.e. stock, etc. (something that can be liquidated relatively quickly) seems fine.

Put in a high volume at this level. A lot of things are relevant in terms of what you actually need to be tooled for success in this game. Such as lineups and playing style to determine exactly how much your going to swing. Some 1-2 games play very small and some games have 50k on the table. For me personally I played in a very large 1-2-5 game and bring 10 full 500 clips to play per session. Part of this is the fact that I can get a 5k stack back in the game and was willing to fire more then others to get there. I had a huge hourly in this game and would suggest a 100k bankroll to take optimal spots and have a clear mindset to take optimal lines. I was extremely unnerved at times playing 5k pots because it had so many implications to my bankroll as when your solid in the roll these decisions are a complete non factor. Everyone seems to think they push a very large edge in the games and can play underrolled. It's not the case of you are playing a pretty optimal high variance style. These games can have some pretty bloated pots in wher trying to steal them away can assure some pretty good win rates but having the skill and nerve to do so coincides with a proper bankroll.

50 should be fine for these stakes

$500 max buy-in really sucks though, i'd have some reservations trying to make a living off that game on only 30 hrs a week
