Just coming to play more PLO from hold'em world. I'm wondering if this is an overplay, in a vacuum. How would you plan on playing this hand after flop? If you lead, are you calling/gii if faced with a raise?

Pre:
Hero dealt JJT9ccxx. Limper EP, then raise to $25, hero calls, a couple more callers after and before hero.

Flop ($150):
JhQh5s
Checks, hero checks with two more to act, button bets $120. Folds to hero who raises to $450. Button flats with 1K behind.

Turn ($1050):
6x
Hero pots to put villain all in for ~1K (hero covers).

Don't like flop. As played, turn is super straightforward.

You're probably up against a combo draw hand since QQ set likely just pots back at you on flop. I think it's a shove on turn.

Cant see top set flatting your raise on that board, and since you can get stacks in on turn there is no other play.

I'm not loving the x raise on the flop which commits 30% of our stack and leaves us open to a lot of ugly cards on turn - any heart, A,K,T,9 that make continuing tricky OOP.

Check call flop and x raise turn which forces villain all in.

As played pot turn - If he has a wrap and flush draw its going in regardless

Meh - he had QQ, and I lost both river runouts.

I guess what I'm hearing is that middle set (on non-flushing, non-straightening board) is ok to stack off with for relative hand-strength value, but we just don't want to play it as a flop x/r OOP because of all the bad turn cards.

is your question how to sneak more chips on the table?

No I'm more of a Hold'em player... Was honestly just trying to figure out if an x/r with middle set in PLO in single raised pot pre and planning to stack off is an overplay/overvaluing my hand, or if it's generally fine (except for what was said about being OOP facing bad turns). It would be nice if there were a Rosetta Stone: "this hand and spot in PLO is roughly like this hand and spot in NLHE." I didn't intend a bad beat story.... also was kinda wondering if this would be better to do with 9TJQ, since even though my hand-strength is weaker, I block (I think?) two-thirds of QQ combos.

ok, put it like this: This spot is somewhat the same that AA vs KK preflop at a Holdem game.

I don't think you can entirely exclude QQ from villains bet/call range on the flop. It's nice to have hands as strong as top set in a bet/ call range instead of playing it as a bet/ shove 100% of the time, it allows his opponents to shove dry turns with their weaker flop raising hands like NFD+ gutter type hands that might find a fold against a shove, although this does run the risk of scare cards on the turn losing value against hands like JJ/ 55 & 2p combos but I mean it's nice to balance & protect your ranges.

Back in the day there was a rule to never slow play top set, but today things have changed.

totally disagree. this is plo not hold em. there are too many scare cards that could kill action from undersets- nfd+gutters aren't folding to a shove with a third of their money already in the pot. flatting could be a good play vs a spew tard but op doesn't seem like a spew tard. what's the benefit to have your flatting range including top set with someone who isn't a spew tard? so maybe he folds 55 no draw? but when that's the case you should also be jamming your monster draws and top set should be in their for balance.

honestly all villian is doing by flatting when i'm trying to shovel piles in with jj910 is doing me a big favor on crap turns.
