Villian: fairly active and aggressive player, based on his stories has been playing PLO for a long long time, $1100 directly to hero's left and he is UTG

hero: card dead so has recently took a few pots away from villian when he bet the flop and hero check raised with meager holdings... mainly because villian has been fairly active and seems to take down pots a lot... so keep in mind he might be a little annoyed with my check raises

pre: villian limps UTG, few callers, hero in BB has 5332 and checks...

flop: ($20) J53 rainbow, checks to villian who pots it for $20, folds to hero who check raises with bottom set to $80, villian instantly repots to $280, hero calls

turn: ($580) K, bringing 2 hearts on the board, hero has no draws... hero checks, villian instantly pots and has maybe $230 behind... hero???

the main factors in my opinion was the history/dynamic ie prior 2 times when i check raised him off pots and the fact that he 4bet the flop and hero is blocking mid set...

since the board was rainbow, should i not have check raised?

You block 5's and its unlikely he has some kind of run down that connects with the low part of the board. I would call flop and check raise turn. c/r flop removes lots of his top pair combos, and narrows his range considerably to raggedy overpairs or top set.

I hate the x/r. We flop bottom set in an unraised 4-way pot on a fairly dry board, so I'm absolutely not trying to play for stacks here. Check/call for me, and probably call all the way to showdown on most runouts. Leading has some merit against loose/passive opponents, but I'd be folding to a raise usually.

After we decide to x/r I fold to the 3b. We're not far ahead of anything other than J5 (which we block) or a random frustration spew. JJ has us crushed and vs a wrap we're flipping while oop.

What was the plan when you hero called the flop? The K is a brick, so nothing has really changed. If we called flop then I guess we're planning to call all the way down now.

Its going to feel pretty bad though when you get broke in this spot chasing a $20 pot.

Ok, thanks for all the input. The consensus that the c/r on the flop was terrible. I totally agree now. So is the right play c/c all the way down assuming reasonable turn and river? or do you find a fold on the river if he bets all the way?

Yeah c/c down. Without a specific read on the player I probably can't find a fold on most runouts, so if he pots all streets we lose $260 to JJ. He could also barrel off with 2pr though so its worth a call.

Lower the spr of this situation and we have more options, but with a strong non-nut hand when we're deepstacked in an unraised pot the goal is just to realize equity at showdown.
