Villain is a passive nit. He knows me pretty well and he should percieve me on the lag gambly side.

Eff stacks 3k

5 handed Hero is dealt A788 UTG

raises to 35, v calls next to act bb and straddle call

A95

Hero bets 100, v raises to 350 hero calls

5

Hero checks v checks

River K

Hero checks v bets 450

How is this an interesting hand?
He's a passive nit, so easy fold on river.

Its 5 handed. Guessing its a standard open shorthanded (time rake) with straddle. I only need a top 20% hand

LOL to folding pre 5 handed. With solid read, river is a fold. Unknown villain, call

This was my first thought when he checks turn after popping flop. The only other hand is a weird A9KX combo but hes checking back that on river. So quads or 99

PF - easily worth an open in a 5 handed game.

Flop - probably too good to fold

Turn - check seems fine. His check back is suspicious when he ends up firing a little over half pot on the river.

River - against many players, I'm going to have to see their hand when I make the nut flush on the river. Against some (possibly this guy) it could be an easy fold if he would ONLY bet a FH or better.

Some things we are losing to are KKxx, AAxx, AK5x, 99xx. I think I fold the river.

Your hand is basically a bluff catcher here. Since you're blocking the nut flush, what is he possibly betting for value?

Because while live games do have good opponents, there's also tons of people who are playing like 70/5 stats that never three bet w/out AA (and sometimes don't three bet when they do have AA), miss tons of value (a guy called my flop bet of 20 on Q77, potted a 5 turn and checked behind a river K with QQT3), chase non-nut draws, and otherwise do terrible things. I've seen a lot of people who have had reasonable success at PLO by simply not playing all the garbage one gets dealt.

Or for the short reason, we can play our hands so perfectly against a lot of players. Even against someone like villain in this hand (likely a decent player), we don't have to worry about calling a big river raise with an underfull if the board comes TT8-4-2. He isn't running a blocker bluff w/ QJT9 or anything. He just has the T8.
