Are these both situations where I "have to call" on both rivers? Villains in both hands are loose, middle aged whales who seem pretty bad. No particular reads, this was my first session of PLO in a while.

Hand 1:
I am the BB ($500) in a limped pot w/ 85xx. Villain is UTG (covers). Flop 885r. I bet $40 into about $50. Turn 3r. I check call $125. River J. I check call $200.

Hand 2:
I limp from UTG with 3678dd ($500). Villain calls from UTG+1 (covers). Flop is 458dd. I check call $30 into $40. Turn 2o. I check, villain bets ~$60, I pot to $280 (can't remember the exact numbers), villain calls. River Kd. I check call my remaining $200.

No you do not have to call, hand 2 in particular folding will be correct vs many opponents. Hand 1 after check/calling the turn though it would be a bit unusual without some excellent reads.

Hand 1 why are you check calling the turn? Are you putting villain a bluff/an 8?

Hand 2 just fold pre

There's no fathomable reason outside of some amazing read that you should x/f river after x/c'ing turn in H1.

Folding H2 is perfectly reasonable.

H1 we have $130 left after the $200 call...given that we hold 2nd nuts (and only 2nd nuts on river) to a loose whale who's bet the whole way wouldn't it be advisable to c/r river? I would think times we are behind are less than times ahead, and that if truly a loose whale, the $130 will be called every time he's not on total air, making our c/r +EV.

Anyone disagree?

Are you sure you have the details for hand 1 right? You have at least a tie for the nuts on the turn and you just check call the turn on 885 3 board? I would stick it in on the turn in heartbeat.

Hand 2. You can fold but have to be careful about making that one too automatic otherwise you become a little easy to bluff. You do have a low flush and block some of his flush cards. That being said, it feels like he has the nuts here.
