I am not sure that I agree with the entireity of the OP because I think it is very important in a PLO MTT to have adequate chips with which to play one's positional advantage to optimal effect. i.e. Open raise in lagte position or put in small re-raises in position to get pots heads up and to have enough chips to float in position and generally out play our opponents with various other strategies.

However, I agree with the general principle that in PLO we don't have to set out on our tournament mission playing for 1st. I would take it a step further and say that we don't even need to be playing for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th or even 10th initially.

Assuming a field of 100 I think the general objective is to be playing to make the final two tables or in the case of a 1000 runners the final 50 players. This statement is obviously dependant on the structure of the comp but I am assuming a decent structure of 30 minutes for the purposes of this discussion.

The reason why we don't need mountains of chips to still have a chance of cashing/cashing big at the business end in PLO compared to in NLHE is because it's pot limit so we can more easily pot control and choose our own risk v reward profiles in situations, because hand equities are closer making it easier to double or treble up, and because dead money pre and protection from bigger stacks pre and/or post flop is common relative to NLHE making double/treble ups more likely.

Nice bump. Troll or not I see what you are getting at OP

Tough to make speculative raises with short stacks and icm pressure when half the field will lolrept AJ54ss in your eye

Not a lot of incentive to get in any close equity spot

I've employed this strategy for many years now and it hasn't let me down

Meh my life has sorta fallen off a cliff in the last ~6 years and I'm struggling to stay afloat let alone rebuild, not sure where to go from here, not sure what to do with my flailing mental health situation, all a bit dicey really
