Re: Portsmouth,VA Poker Rooms

Court cases themselves have elements of chance, with an expectation of winning a prize based on the outcome, and the winner isn't known beforehand despite the skill of the attorneys involved.

Re: Portsmouth,VA Poker Rooms

i think that it was a little bit of bad timing for all of this to go down because of the federal case on online poker and the big spot light on FTP and player funds. However maybe the apeal will go better

Re: Portsmouth,VA Poker Rooms

Saw this article in the Virginian-pilot today and figured I would link it here. Might have to steal that comment at the end.

Re: Portsmouth,VA Poker Rooms

A post trial Motion to reconsider and change the result has been filed in the Daniels case. I will be posting a copy of it soon over at the PPA site.

It is hoped the judge will see that he made some pretty clear errors in interpreting VA law on this subject. If he does, we may still win this case.

If he does not, an appeal is anticipated.

I Heard a rumor that Virginia beach is licensing cash game play on some kind of time limit usage thing. I heard the license is 1500. I heard this from an x dealer from showdown, one of the short lived Portsmouth halls. Anyone heard this?

I haven't been able to find anything on this.

However, I don't have "ins" with anyone. But, I've been looking off and on for a month, and nothing.

On the Virginia Beach licensing I do not believe it to be true. I had originally heard it from a former dealer and I think someone was trying to get him to deal. I play a lot of cards around here and would have very likely had it confirmed by now if it was true. The dealer friend I had heard it from also does not believe it to be true.

I heard another rumour though... but that is for the next post.

Skall,
I played a game with a fella this weekend that was the owner of one of the other Portsmouth poker halls not involved in the case. They had originally wanted to be party but it made the case more complicated on the poker side with no real gain so the lawyers just wanted to go with the Daniels case.

Anyway, he said the appeal was filed and we are waiting on a date. Is that true?

The Notice of Appeal was filed late last week.

The next step in the process is a hearing where the judges of the appellate court decide whether or not to take the case. We do not have a date for that hearing yet, but I will post it when it is set.

I also will be asking all VA poker players to publicly support the court accepting the case.

Stay tuned!

Yatzee!! Thanks for the info. I'm in Hampton roads but I'd make the trip to Richmond if that's where it is.
