Fight for Poker Rights (PPA)Discussions on actions the Poker Players Alliance and individual poker players are taking to advocate for poker rights at the local, state, and federal levels.
Has anyone heard anything new on what is going on with the poker rooms? They were shut down in July by Portsmouth's attorney after he suddenly changed his mind upon poker being in the "gray area" of Virginia's gaming laws.
Last I heard Charlie Daniels, who owns one of the rooms that generated over $700,000 for charity alone, was protesting to reopen until a court ruling has been made but that was almost two months ago. I have been out of the area for a while so if anyone has any more info I would appreciate it!
I dont have any info other than they are still closed. On the local online news site I read about Charlie Daniels protesting but I havent seen any of them reopen.
The Poker Players Alliance Litigation Support Network has been in contact with Mr. Daniels (owner of the Poker Palace) and his attorney Barry Taylor. We have agreed to work together in this matter and I expect that Mr. Daniels will be filing a petition for Declaratory Judgment (that the operation of the Poker Palace was a legal operation) in the very near future.
I will keep you guys posted, but don't expect the Palace (or any other room for that matter) to reopen until there is a favorable Court ruling or a change in VA law.
A petition for Declaratory Judgment seeking a Court ruling that the Portsmouth, VA poker rooms were legal was filed last week. With all the stuff going on in DC I haven't had a lot of opportunity to follow up on the progress. Plus there have been some personal concerns involving one of our lawyers that has slowed the exchange of information.
I hope to have a full report and a copy of the Petition up on the PPA website next week.
The Poker Palace case is waiting for a court hearing on the Commonwealth of VA's Motion to Dismiss the case. I will let you know when that hearing is scheduled and am in the process of getting the Motion and the Objection uploaded to the PPA website.
