Who knew Orpik sucked? (everybody). Kuznetsov's on ice shot % was like 1%, he was generating a lot of chances. Just unreal. Ovechkin was excellent all series, but no one cares about that now. Orpik is an albatross, but I doubt anyone will take him. Beagle sucks but always seems to get big, important minutes for some reason. Wilson is an all around terrible hockey player and should never play another game in a Caps sweater. Chimera is probably the worst forward we have, and needs to take a walk. We need some bottom 6 scoring in the worst way, and Trotz needs to stop benching good Dmen (Orlov and Schmidt) in favor of ****ing loser pieces of **** like Chorney and Mike Weber who are exceptionally terrible. Vrana and Bowey are on the way, the core/top 6 are excellent. Well get some more chances at a cup but you just can't trot Orpik out for big minutes and expect to not get scathed by a decent team. Terrible hit in game 2, serves his suspension, and manages to blow the whole ****ing game by whacking Hornqvist in the face for a double minor. With Alzner injured and Chorney out there on the PK, the resulting two goals were predictable. I just can't express how much I hate Orpik.

Vrana should be a stud, but we know how Trotz treats young guys with talent. He'll bury him on the 4th line, and scratch him for games at a time due to whatever mistake. Kinda like how he wouldn't play Forsberg in Nashville.

Dumbasses like him probably think young guys need to "pay their dues" or whatever. His fatal flaw is he can't stand higher risk/higher reward players who are actually good (Orlov, Schmidt, Burakovsky, kuznetsov) and prefers guys he perceives as "low risk" like beagle, wilson, Orpik, weber, Chorney. The problem is, he's wrong. Instead of higher risk/way higher reward guys, he's playing guys who, in reality, are just as high risk (because they suck) and no reward. It's all about optics. Tom Wilson is hustling around his own zone, hitting people, which looks great to coach, but the problem is he has to because he's so ****ing terrible the puck never goes the other way. Orlov misses a hip check, results in a goal, and it looks so bad that he gets benched. Nevermind how much he drives play for the rest of the games.

So Muresano you certainly know more about hockey than me but here is my take on it as semi serious watcher of hockey (Caps mostly). Tell me where I'm wrong:

83-I actually think he is fine as a 3/4 line grinder type. Never gonna be much more
90-meh. Just never blows me away. Serviceable
25-agree with you. Old and done. Hope he is gone. Hang on to that speed rep too long
10, 26- dumpster fire. They're done
43- I guess he fills a role but seems to have no actual skills. Don't get the fascination with him either
4-maybe a 3rd liner in OTT
44-yeah he was a ****ing disaster this series

I know next to nothing about the cap, etc but which of the above can we expect back next season. I'm assuming we are stuck with Orpicks contract

Lol this guy....STFU Zoltan

And I agree Trotz seemed to rely on the "experience factor" pretty hard though Tbf I think almost all coaches do.

Btw Williams was better last few games but early in the series was a train wreck with penalties and basically being invisible

83 is a 4th liner at best. At worst he's a possession anchor who seemed to lose a metric **** ton of faceoffs in both zones, which is strange considering that's allegedly his strong suit. He sucks, but coaches love him. And people wonder why we lose every ****ing year?

90- He can drive me crazy (doesn't have much finish, and can play very soft at times) but we need the guy. He's sound defensively, has good possession numbers, can play in transition, obviously can skate, and is probably our best player at making controlled zone entries on the power play. I think he belongs on the 3rd line, but we need to resign him.

25-Our worst forward. Absolute garbage. Has zero skill, ends every shift in the defensive zone. Avoid resigning at all costs. Can cost you games/series. Literally that bad. Yet some ****ing how ended up getting a not insignificant amount of time on the power play which is just utterly inexcusable. Again, Trotz seems to love him. **** that. **** him.

10- Good story, good PKer, but don't even waste your time resigning him. Give his minutes to a younger player. Guys like Richards are exactly the types of guys we need to replace with our own talent because they're REPLACEABLE. Makes no sense to hold onto these guys just because they weren't terrible. I wish him all the best though, and hope someone else signs him.

26- Same story. Has another year on his deal, but guys like him are pushing garbage like Beagle up to the 3rd line by their presence alone. We need to get rid of them.

43- Absolutely awful hockey player, and showing no signs of improving. Fully embraced his goon reputation. Great for pissing teams/fanbases off, terrible for winning hockey games. I shudder to think of how much 3rd line time he got. I hated the pick when it happened, and I hate it even more now.

4- A 7th Dman in the regular season, should have to pay for a ticket to get close to the ice in the playoffs.

44- The most dangerous/detrimental player on our roster. No other player has a bigger discrepancy between actual, on-ice quality, and perception by the coach. He's a series loser. Gotta find a way to move him.

Don't look now but Wilson almost seems like he is developing into a decent 3/4 line player.

Hopefully Trotz let's some of these kids stick amd doesn't put them in the playoff doghouse after every mistake.

And of course, LOL Orpik..he is just so terrible.

Actually let me expand on that

Last night on the post game, one of the Caps analysts thought that the Team needed to stop trying to match the Pens speed and play more of a trap game. It would reduce the number of shots and scoring pops but would also (hopefully) neutralize the Pens speed. This seemed to work in stretches against the Leafs who are obviously not the same caliber.

Do we get out of R1?

Be nice to have Holtby/Grubi stand on heads for a few weeks
