Kenins signed for $575k, weeeeeeeee!!!

good thing we signed Dorsett for $2.65m, amirite?

will be the same deal when they sign Stanton for peanuts and gave Sbisa $700k OVER his qualifying offer for whatever ****ing reason

achievement: intentionally weakened goaltending position for a 3rd round pick

next up: trade Bieksa & Higgins for $0.10 on the dollar

followed by: horrible free agent signings probably

maybe mix in some bad RFA extensions too for kicks, who knows

anything is poss-i-bulllllllllllllll

let's say they dump Bieksa like it seems they will, and maybe Higgins too for the hell of it in an effort to GET YOUNGER:

Quote:
D.Sedin - H.Sedin - Vrbata
Baertschi - Bonino - Burrows
Kenins - Horvat - Hansen
Dorsett - Vey - Kassian

Edler - Tanev
Hamhuis - Clendening
Sbisa - Corrado

Miller
Markstrom
there's no way any logical person could think that team is better than last year
especially when they dump UFA-to-be Vrbata towards the deadline
(and Hamhuis too if they can't get him signed)

maybe they're just trying to tank without calling it that?

alternate universe where i am the Canucks GM:

- don't sign Miller (prob would have chased Greiss at the time for a stopgap)
- trade Matthias last deadline for a 2nd/3rd round pick
- don't re-sign Dorsett or Sbisa, trade Sbisa's rights for a pick if possible
- trade Bieksa for a 2nd/3rd, yeah sure whatever
- trade Kassian for a pick, yeah sure whatever
- sign J.Williams, B.Richards & Ehrhoff
(or J.Ward, Vermette & Green, or X, Y & Z, whatever lots of options)

Quote:
Sedin - Sedin - Vrbata
Baertschi - Bonino - J.Williams
Higgins - B.Richards - Burrows
Kenins - Horvat - Hansen
Vey

Edler - Tanev
Hamhuis - Weber
Bartkowski - Ehrhoff
Clendening

Lack
Markstrom

two 2nd/3rds, one mid-pick, one late pick maybe
cap room: ~$4m
^ so can even upgrade further if desired, or keep the space to upgrade later / buy at the deadline

deadline / summer predictions

UFAs:

Vrbata - feels like he'll probably get traded, but they kinda do need him in the lineup ... i bet he gets dealt though, especially so they have the room to go chase a new toy
Prust - likely will be traded or lost in free agency
Cracknell - has been a solid depth C/W, might be nice to keep around, but feel like he'll probably walk in free agency
Hamhuis - similar situation to Vrbata, except the Canucks' defense is a tirefire, so they probably should try to re-sign him (he could also be hard to trade due to the injury)
Bartkowski - is fairly mediocre, they should probably let him walk and upgrade, but it wouldn't shock anyone if Benning re-signed him
Weber - similar to Bartkowski, except he's more likely to leave
Biega - hey he's a nice story and everything, but he isn't very good tbh, let's move on

RFAs:

Baertschi - has been pretty good this season, would be shocked if he isn't back in the middle-6 next season
Etem - guessing he'll get another shot next season
Vey - decent depth C/W option, they're probably invested enough to bring him back

Other moves?:

Higgins - will obviously be dumped one way or the other
Burrows - doubt they can move him, might leave after next season though
Miller - Benning said there were teams who wanted him last summer, can lightning strike twice? would they move him? probably not to both

if they can turn some of these guys into picks i guess that's a bonus, not holding my breath though

Quote:
Daniel - Henrik - Hansen
X - Sutter - Burrows
Baertschi - Horvat - Virtanen
Etem - McCann - Dorsett
Vey

Edler - Tanev
Hamhuis - Sbisa
Hutton - Bartkowski
Y

Miller
Markstrom

X = one of Vrbata, Lucic, Eriksson, Ladd, etc
or
a draft pick like Puljujarvi, Laine, Tkachuk

Y = some rando
or
a draft pick like Chychrun, Juolevi, Sergachev
so this team still prolly sucks, huh?
(barring massive contributions from young players)

#canucks Alex Biega contract extension: 16-17 $700 000, 17-18 $800 000 ($1.5M total)
i mean what's the point? he's 28yo soon and not good at the iced hockey. is he going to magically improve? no, he isn't. so why then? inertia.

apparently will be the latest player to be waived tomorrow, because Benning is literally the worst salesman in the history of the world

if these moves aren't at least precursors to some 50% salary retained trades for something imma be apoplectic

Sounds like ownership won't let benning clean house.
Quote

well i guess the good news, given that everyone came out and denied that, is that they can't really stop him now. also, the further they fall out of the playoff picture, the less reason there'll be not to sell off players.

also let's not throw all the blame on ownership. i mean, a big part of the house that needs cleaning are guys that Benning brought in: Sutter, Sbisa, Dorsett, Miller
(and they're all ~unmovable)

and Prust & Bartkowski were total duds.

still think they should try to re-sign Hamhuis though. the defense is a mess, but he's still a solid player, they'll probably need him if they want a chance at respectability next season.

so Vrbata for a meh pick then? they've done a fine job of killing his value, well done. you can only do 2 salary-retained trades, so him probably and ... Prust? outside chance of Higgins or Burrows?

so it seems like goodbye to Vrbata, Bartkowski, Weber, and Prust. we hardly knew ye.

sounds like also goodbye to Burrows & Higgins, one way or another.

+top6 pick
seems like they'll have the cap space to sign a big forward & a big dman, probably should try to, doubt they can attract the cream of the crop because this team is gonna be horrible again regardless. might as well just bring Hamhuis back, then try to get Eriksson / Lucic / Ladd / Backes / Okposo / whoever. but none of those guys should want to sign here, and the only one who might is Hamhuis.

would bet money on them whiffing on all those guys and giving $60m to Kris Russell & Darren Helm.

weeeeeeeee!!!
