Also I get Thole is garbage and that no baseball managers want to have no catchers on the bench, but what are the odds that Russel gets injured before the game ends? 1 in 1000? Higher? Dickey was so helpless in that at bat, that i'd have to imagine PH Thole has a higher EV than wasting a high leverage at bat.

Exactly. I'm betting Chavez probably hasn't had any reps in the cage. They must really have confidence in Dickey's bunting.

They might need Dickey to pitch if this game goes a couple more innings. After Storen, it's just Tepera and Floyd left in the pen with Osuna unavailable.

Happ looked decent enough at the plate last night and seemed like an obvious choice to pinch bunt since he's obviously not throwing today.
