so we're just getting navarro instead of smoak every day now?

Smoak has gotten the short end of the stick on playing time this season, first with the Bautista injury and now with Navarro's 2-HR week.

Why not Valencia for some DH action?

.275 career wOBA vs. RHP is probably the main reason.

It scares me that, at some point this year, the Jays are going to have to count on relief pitchers other than Osuna/Hendriks/Cecil/Loup/Delabar to get meaningful outs in games where their season is on the line.

doubt any other team uses any more than 5 guys to get the bulk of their high-leverage outs.

Waffles confirmed excellent. Baseball was pretty bad, glad they somehow managed to win one while I was there. Osuna the GOAT

We should trade Pillar IMO.

Guy has been very good this season and shows up on the highlight reel every night but I don't know if there's ever going to be a time when his value is higher and we really need some pitching help.

Would rather see Edwin get traded. Pillar's defence is worth lots even when his hitting cools off. Trading Edwin to a team that needs a legit big bat still leaves us several 1st/Dh combos. Including having Martin Dh on many of the games Navaro catches.

Ya EE probably has a lot of value in trading because he hits HRs and is a vet and it seems that GMs probably over rate players like EE.

Even though EE is probably worse than Pillar right now, he probably nets a bigger return.

Funny you mention Pillar's defense though as to why he's worth keeping. I actually think that is one of the reasons that we should trade him. He's had so many highlight reel catches that people probably overestimate his defensive abilities and that's why I think his value is probably pretty high right now.

Edwin just picked up 10-and-5 rights. If they were ever planning on trading him, they'd have done it this past offseason.

More I think about it, the more Pillar is the linchpin of the entire outfield. Unless you're trading for Carlos Gomez or something. Otherwise, who plays CF? Pompey clearly not ready, Saunders is still hurt and sucks at CF, Carrera is only rostered because Saunders being hurt, and Bautista's range is nothing special in RF so having a good defensive CF certainly helps.

Looking ahead to all star break I don't see jays going 7-7.

I think we do the typical jays thing and go 10-4 or we go 4-10

Here is hoping for the former and a 51-40 record going into the break.

I have caught almost all the jays games this year on tv and I can't recall Bautista throwing a ball ( I mean with intent) since he got back in RF. Has he thrown anything other than a short- arm to a close cutoff man??

If not, I guess we have good reason to think his arm is not getting better until the offseason. Thoughts?

No, he is clearly not 100%, and teams are aware of this.

The Orioles took advantage of him last week, they grabbed 2nd a couple of times in a couple of spots they shouldn't have.

I think he'll try to throw someone out in the right spot when a game is on the line, but it doesn't really make sense to let it loose in the 3rd inning of a still-meaningless game in June and risk re-hurting himself.

He needs some time off. DL stint would be ideal but it'll never happen given that his bat doesn't seem to be impacted too much.

I will be pissed if he goes to the All-Star Game.

I'd be more worried about him doing the derby tbh. ASG is usually a 2-3 inning jaunt and then a seat. Decent chance he doesn't even have a ball hit to him in the all-star game if he even plays the field.

Ryan Goins in LF? Why? I thought his 2b defense was really the only reason he'd be in the lineup.

He had good numbers vs. Bucholtz coming into today, 9/19 career.
