We don't go comeback wins well, but when we do we lay lots of runs on the board and therefore win by more than 1.

I would be interested to know what our record is for comeback wins and holds from the 7th inning onward. I would think we are bad in both, but worse in comeback wins.

Yeah, I want Edwin back. The better he does, the more I want him back. But, the better he does the more he will cost to get back, which means the harder it will be to keep him. It is a nasty circle.

Meh. Cost us an "A-ball prospect" and apparently very little cash. Which I guess is fine for a fourth outfielder. I don't expect much, but he's still an upgrade over Zeke Carrera.

Yeah this seems fine. Jays' 18th ranked prospect going the other way, though plenty of upside. Upton's been worth 3ish WAR over the past 1.5 years and the Jays get another 1.5 of him for $5MM.

Acts as insurance in case Bautista or Saunders walk (QO's!), or Pillar gets hurt and get a hole in CF. Upton>Carerra as a 4th OF, and is just as good an offensive option as Smoak at this point, plus can be bench bat and pinch runner (16 HR, 20sb). Smoak relegated to bench/ occasional day at 1B/ late-game defensive replacement. Possible that Bautista and Saunders can get less time in the outfield, maybe DH-ing or even playing 1B.

I would think he mostly just knocks Carrera down.

Upton is better defensively than either Saunders or Bautista. If he starts in a corner of spot neither of those guys is coming out of the lineup. So they'd have to dh or play first. Smoak would be the odd man out.

Are we that confident that Upton is actually a better player than Carrera right now?

Carrera has certainly had a better season, though he struggled recently when his role became too big for his skills.

OK I just realized which Upton we got, and my day became much better! Now I'm thrilled about the acquisition. Bautista to be the everyday DH is what I've wanted since before he got injured.

More importantly, though, Edwin is more likely to be fine mostly DHing than Bautista would.

I'd argue no, but I don't think it really matters either way... Bautista -23 DRS this season. Super small sample, but his arm is pretty much the only thing that was keeping him afloat in the field over the last few years and he doesn't have that anymore.

Isn't his arm still decent? It sure was good last year. Anyway, I don't mind the deal to bring in a depth guy like Upton but using it to move guys like Bautista to DH doens't make a ton of sense to me unless you believe that he is more of a liability defensively than EE. Guess it works well though to limit Bautista in the field and maybe give guys like him and EE a few days rest to keep them healthy for the stretch run.
