Seattle won't make another superbowl once russell gets paid. That guy can't carry a team like the elite QBs without the defense they have, who is likely the best of all time.

That seems to be the consensus almost those that don't watch him play every week and thus don't know anything other than fantasy stats yey!

I'm a huge Seahawks fan and I'm scared of the same thing tbh. Depends on how that contract is structured and how much of an impact it'll have on the defense of course.

I'm a Packer fan but I have watched every NFL game that Wilson has played. Here's my take on him FWW:

1. Wilson can really "spin the ball." He throws a tight spiral with great velocity when need be. He also has a great touch in throwing. Yeah he can really throw the ball well.

2. His running has to be frustrating and demoralizing to other teams. He is fast and always seems to avoid big hits when he runs by sliding or getting out of bounds. If a team doesn't account for his running his running will destroy them.

3. Wilson doesn't make a lot of bone head plays so other teams don't get cheap points from him very often.

Carolina did a decent job in limiting Wilson's running but Wilson beat them through the air. I actually think Carolina had the model for defending the Seahawks but Seattle made some great plays. So ... Seattle is going to score points in the upcoming game therefore how many will the Packers have to score to win? Given the Seahawks defense, the Packers will have a hard time scoring enough.

It's nobody's fault. Seattle can't not pay him, but you CAN'T keep a defense full of studs when you are about to pay one position 20x more than they are currently being paid.

IMO you can win the super bowl 2 ways… Get a good QB on the cheap and field a STUD defense (like seattle did and SF was almost able to do) or have the ELITE of the ELITE QBs and he can carry you there despite mediocre surroundings.

Seattle fans don't understand the world the rest of the league lives in… the salary cap world. You are paying a very good QB next to nothing and is the best value in the NFL. The problem is when he is paid like an ELITE QB and he isn't in the Rodgers/Brady/Peyton camp, well then you aren't going to win super bowls.

You should be thrilled you won a super bowl and have a good chance at another, but it's just extreme homerism to think you are going to pay russell and be able to keep the ridiculous defense you have now.

For the record, I'm not saying you CAN'T win another super bowl but you won't continue being the clear front runner like the past 2 years.

There is a lot of talk on what the Seahawks will have to pay Wilson in Seattle. The Seahawks are going to keep Wilson period. The Seahwaks organization is extremely well run including managing their roster (well the Percy Harvin fiasco aside) so to make a long story short, they will be able to keep Wilson and retain the core personnel for at least two more seasons after this one. The big challenge will be in drafting near the bottom. So far that hasn't worked too well.

The Seahawks are the best team in the NFL, but you might be getting a little ahead of yourself. Beat GB first.

Also "besides Wagner" is a big hit in and of itself. Add in inevitably losing another stud (or two or three) that wants to restructure and you've got an average team.

I haven't looked at seattles cap situation at all but there HAS to be studs on defense that are severely underpaid to make it possible to afford Wilson and maintain the defense.

And if that is true then you have to imagine those guys are going to want to restructure.

Thomas, bennet, and sherman just signed new contacts this past offseason, avril and Wright signed during this season, chancellor signed two offseasons ago (that was a steal), and all indications are they'll resign Wagner this offseason. That extension plus Wilson will have them bumping up against the cap, but they've done a remarkable job keeping this defensive core together for years to come.
