He's said multiple times that he wants to live up to his contract so I think he had a great desire to play well this season.

If Briere stays healthy and even comes close to his Buffalo form, you guys win the East.

There, I said it.

Bump.

The team looks up and down so far, and it looks like Briere and Gagne might be in for a long season with groin troubles. Good thing is Richards and Carter might be getting into a grove after last night's 6-2 win. Also Laliberte looks like he knows what to do with the puck through his first two games.

And JVR is looking like he's going to be one hell of a player.

It's probably for the better, he just wasn't himself in the games that he played. If he can come back at 100% later in the season I'd rather have that than whatever it was earlier in the year. We're pretty deep so finding a replacement shouldn't be a problem.

Five in a row!

Ray Emery looks great. We're starting to creep up in the standings, and even with all the injuries the offense looks pretty darn good.

anyone else think the team will be better off if richards hands the C to pronger? I have to say i love richards game, but he seems too reserved of a leader. Not always a good thing.

Not at all. Richards, Carter and Pronger are all great leaders and the faces of this team. Richards gives it his all every night, and is the face of the franchise. He obviously still has a lot to learn about being a Captain in the NHL, but he can lean on Pronger if he needs to, and the team will listen.

Now it's about time they started winning some ****ing games.

I agree with you for the most part. Its baffling that with the amount of offensive talent we have, we still struggle to score goals. Im starting to think stevens might be the problem as well.

I think Gagne just doesn't have the quickness he used to, and he is chewing up a lot of salary cap space. The same is happening with Briere, but Danny still produces when hes's in the lineup for the most part. Gagne has really been struggling, hopefully he can get back to something close to what he was when he gets back from this injury.

another bad loss. This time effort was in question. This team scoring 1 goal, or getting shutout is definite underachieving.

Yep. I was at the game, it was an awful thing to watch. I liked how Richards and Pronger got in scraps to try to spark the team, but they just didn't respond.

I think Stevens had better get them back rolling soon, or it might be his ass. The thing that scares me about that is, who's going to take over if he gets fired? Craig Berube (lol)? Maybe we should give the Great One a call and see if he'd like to coach some real players in a real hockey town.

PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Flyers replaced coach John Stevens with Peter Laviolette on Friday after the team was shut out in consecutive games.

A person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press of the switch on condition of anonymity because it had not been made public.

The Flyers called an 8 p.m. press conference at the Wachovia Center.

A Carolina Hurricanes spokesman said they had granted the Flyers permission to talk to Laviolette, who led the team to its only Stanley Cup title in 2006. He was fired in December 2008 and was still under contract.

laviolette is a good choice imo. saw this coming, they just dont play for stevens, he is a super nice guy though.

Yeah, I'm glad they didn't give it to Berube. Apparently there had been some speculation as to whether or not Richards was going to remain Captain, but after the presser they interviewed him on CSN and he said "Mike Richards is the captain of this team." I guess that won't change soon. If I was Laviolette, I'd give Carter and Pronger A's and set in stone that those three are the leaders of the team moving forward. Hopefully it can get turned around tomorrow.

as much as i like mike richards in pretty much every way, hes still a youngin. Usually, unless you're alexander overchkin, or crosby, you're going to have a tough time commanding a team. I think we can agree that richards is still a tier below the players i mentioned above.

Pronger is possibly a future hall of famer, and they should probably take advantage of the fact that hes on this team. He can mold the core of the flyers which is one of the youngest in the nhl into something really good imo. I would let him carry the C, and tell richards he will have plenty of time to be captain in the future.

Earlier i was out to dinner at nrb with a couple friends, and the conversation of the flyers goaltending situation presented it self. My friend argues that bb is in fact better than emery. I dont really agree, but his argument makes me think. Bouch has been in some unfavorable situations on other teams and hasnt been able to get a permanent starting job. I think under the proper conditions with a good D and a team that is capable of scoring he can be as good or better than emery. Im sure everyone remembers the impressive run he had here his first time around.
