I'm not the biggest Hartnell fan, but at least he knows how to beat up Avery.

Blowing 2 goal third period leads is fun. I've about had it with Hartnell, I'm starting to think we need to deal for Kovalchuk. I don't see this team having a chance in hell of winning a playoff series as it is. Just too much inconsistency.

i think emery was the biggest problem. dude is slow on the wrap arounds and gives up too many rebounds. ive been wondering why the flyers arent in the ilya running, would be ****ing nice, awful loss tonight.

Yeah, Emery is definitely too slow on the wrap around. You can't really blame him for Kovalchuk's goal or the breakaway goal, those were just terrible defense. I think he played solid enough to win, but the team was just terribly flat in the third period so he didn't have much of a chance.

Holmgren is probably a little too gunshy to pull the trigger, especially for a Russian player since he is a Clark disciple. It would probably take Carter and someone else, possibly Hartnell which I would think could get the deal done. I'm not sure if Carter is a RFA after next season or a UFA, if he is a UFA they probably won't have the money to keep him and possibly not if he is a RFA and somebody offers him what he is going to want, probably in the $7M+ range. Trading Hartnell and Carter would at least give them some room to try and re-sign Kovy for at least two years after this season, somewhere in the $9-10M range, all though he'll probably want something long-term. If they could trade to get Kovy and turn around and get another forward to replace Hartnell, someone like R.J. Umberger (though I doubt he'll be available) for a minor leaguer and a draft pick or two, that would be a scary team to face come playoff time. But once again, Holmgren doesn't strike me as someone who will shake things up that much as far as personnel, although I hope I'm wrong. Between this year and next year, it's pretty much go-for-broke anyway. The question is whether or not to go for it now or down the road.

Yea i wasnt blaming emery for the break away, or the second wrap around for tha tmatter cause if you notice in the replay hes being interfered with by one of the thrashers so he couldnt get back over. The breakaway goal was a fantastic pass, and SHOCK, a finish. It pisses me off that we miss the net so much and that our players dont aim their shots (excluding jvr and giroux) and they keep firing into the goalies bread basket. Skilled russians is exaclty what we need right now too, its the way the league is going.

I would trade richards before i trade carter, you would think he has more value anyway.

They can't trade Richards, teams won't take on his contract. He's here to stay. Carter has a lot of value because he is signed through next year, so you get him for the stretch run this year and you can trade him at the deadline next year and still get something for him. Hartnell would just be a throw-in, but I'd happily do that and give JVR minutes on the second line. I'd still like to trade for another forward to add some depth they'd lose with Hartnell, but I think they'd still be alright.

You guys want Phaneuf? You can have him. we'll even sell on the cheap, gimme Hartnell + Coburn and it's done.

01-29-2010 , 01:24 PM
What's so wrong with Phaneuf? I read you guys talking about him but I obviously don't watch him at all since I'm on the east coast. I thought he was hot ****, especially a year or two ago but did Avery's girl give him some bad stuff or what?
Philadelphia Flyers: Getting Bullied on Broad Quote

phaneuf is terrible in the defensive zone and is proving to be more al iafrate than chris pronger

hartnell + coburn would be a steal for phaneuf; i don't think philadelphia can afford phaneuf.

Pronger hasn't really impressed me in the defensive zone this year. He's certainly better than average, but there are some plays where he just doesn't move his feet and lets other guys skate right past him. He also has a tendency to just stand in front of the net and expect to scare guys off which doesn't happen. He's certainly helped on offense and the PP though, without a doubt.

Does Kovalchuk really only make $5.5M this year? If so, that really gives the Flyers a change to go get him and get another wing who is an upgrade over Hartnell. I mean, at this point, if you gave a sack of potatoes a wig and a hockey stick I'd challenge anybody to point out the difference. Granted that sack of potatoes may take less penalties which would be a dead giveaway.

How about Hartnell, Coburn and Asham for Phaneuf and Glencross?

flyers can't afford phaneuf unless they are dead set on never paying a goalie money again. just playing around on capgeek.com, a flyers team that makes that trade owes 51.9 million to 16 players next season, none of them being a goalie. you need to pay at least 1.5 million to fill out just a 20 man roster, so that's 53.6 million, leaving 2.2 million for a goaltender if the salary cap stays at 56.8 million, which is not a guarantee (imo it's more likely to fall than rise).

it's a very tight fit.

Yeah I didn't look at Glencross' salary before I proposed that trade. They've got to figure something out, though. This **** ain't cutting it.

LOL Flames/LOL Rangers. The Flames owned us last year after they dealt for Jokinen, hopefully that won't be the case after they deal for 15 new forwards.
