without reading the second page of this thread, i reeeeeally think throwing a bomb on
2nd down with time running down was a reeeeeeally good choice.

i mean, the 15% of the time you complete the pass, (naaah, 8%), it's over. the majority of the time, you prove you're fat charlie, lose the game, get fired after this year, and make us actually have to face a 'real' coach for the next 30 years...

our Charlie, who art in Heaven, **** you be thy name...

At least M is binging on koolaid. I'm going to lol when they aren't even contending for a big11 title that no one wants.

I hope nobody was in the way. Weis once took out an entire family when he slipped on some gravy.

Seriously, though, after watching yesterday's games Notre Dame can beat everybody left on their schedule. Including USC, which is clearly not last season's USC. I'm not saying that they will run the table, but that they're plenty good enough.

Please start by waxing tMSU. Save Charlie's job.

We have a decent shot at 10 wins, we'll see. Probably end up 9-3.

NDNation (fwiw) says he needed stitches after the game and will be fine for the MSU game.

Yeah, I'll eat crow. I still think ND was the better team and wins that game 7.5 times out of ten, but meh, whatever.

I actually thought Weis called a very good game. The emu draw was terrible, but otherwise, very good. Using 3/4 WR seemed real smart. I wasn't able to tell what personnel Michigan trotted out for those plays, but given our horrid depth, it's real smart if ND had anyone functional at WR.

The endgame seemed fine, they were killing us throwing the ball and he had what's-his-face open and missed him. If he runs up the gut, kills the TO, punts, and loses, he gets ripped for being too conservative.

The biggest thing for ND was how impressive their O-line was. Very good pass protection, very good running game. If you'd told me we wouldn't get to Clausen at all and they'd rush for whatever, 140-150 yards as a team, I'd say we were gonna get rocked.

Might be wishful thinking (since Michigan won), but I really think this team (ND) is going to be very good this year.

I hate on Weis as much as any ND fan around here but overall he called a great game. I think a run on second down would have been a bad call. I think he should have run something that had a higher % but all the bashing he is getting is a bit much.

Losing the game obviously sucks and fair play to the Michigan players for pulling out the win at the end, but at least the team has the ability to be good, especially on offense.

Yeah, I just don't get why he would pass the ball so deep downfield. I thought he should've run the swing pass to the flats, or something like that, cause that play was basically a guaranteed 7 yards all game.

just chiming in to say that basically i completely agree with everything franchise and shemp are saying, they seem much more levelheaded about this all than most of you

also, riverman is a terrible poster

well the screen got killed the last time they ran it, and allen got hurt right before that

i liked the shot downfield, effectively ends the game if completed

Allen being hurt was also big in that decision imo. Having him out also makes passing better and that's something a lot of people I've talked to missed.

haha! thing is, contending for the big 10 title was just about the peak of what any of us would've predicted 2 weeks ago...

Now that the emotion had died down, It's actually hard to pinpoint why ND lost. Obviously Michigan played well and RRod and GRob coached well, but more specific I think it was the sum total of a bunch of factors. While they're not all weighted equally, changing any one of them could tip the balance in a close game. My list in order is:

Tate Forcier

Irish Defensive slowness

Referee Bias

Running Backs not initialled AA couldn't run.

Ternuta's inistence on blitzing all the time.

Clausen's Lack of Leadership and Awareness

Weis Fancy Play Syndrome

Tate goes Stonehands.

M's superior special teams*

The last one* might not change the game by itself, but who knows. If he could really punt the hell out of the ball on the last drive then ND perhaps should have just had them call their last TOs by running into the line.

If we lose to MSU then I'd rather have Clausen coaching against Purdue.
