I have my MBA, though it's from a school here so it may also be worthless or overpriced
K B4 Z,

Think of it this way. Million and millions of people eat at McDonald's every year. That doesn't make it objectively good food. It makes it popular, but not quality. Just because people like crap, doesn't make it any less crap.

this analogy would work if McDonalds were also expensive. but people go there b/c it's cheap, convenient, and consistent, not b/c it's good food

Not sure. Slated for today are Phil Hughes, Phil Coke, Brian Bruney, Damaso Marte, Jon Albaldejo, Mark Melancon

Posada knocks one out first pitch! Molina fittingly pops one up weakly on the first pitch in the following AB.

How about designer clothes and name brand things? Cost more for the same thing but it doesn't mean they are objectively better. Same with name brand medicine vs generics.

The price people pay for things doesn't make the thing objectively better.

well these examples aren't great either. for one, many designer clothes ARE better on pure quality than cheaper versions. and people derive pleasure from wearing and showing off brand names - this goes into the price. people value this and will pay more for it. you may think that's dumb, and that's fine.

name brands, vs generics - again, a critical factor here is brand and trust. people will pay more for these things b/c there is a perceived trust in the quality of the goods. now, this is an example of people just being dumb or being dumb shoppers.

so yeah the price doesn't always determine an objective value for something like consumer goods.

but RE is a sophisticated market, and it's impossible that a US city could remain expensive (which is largely driven by demand to live there and the benefits people gain from living there) year after year after year if it objectively sucked as a place to live.

go look at the list of most expensive US cities. NYC, SF, LA, Miami, Boston, Chicago, Washington DC. these are all places where demand is high for all kinds of reasons. 1 common denominator is that almost are all coastal cities. people like living near the ocean. they aren't expensive b/c the RE fairy waived a wand and made them that way - the market creates prices.

what amazes me is that someone from new york would try to claim that boston's 'name brand quality' is overrated. now let's never speak of this again.

Coastal cities are more expensive for a lot more reasons then, "people like living near the ocean." This is such an absurd conversation.

England is very ****ty and very expensive, why are we having this conversation? The market shows that lots of people need to work near the coast because that's where all the $ is, not because Boston doesn't suck.

I actually don't mind the econotard hijack. It's like drinking orange juice everyday, and then you just decide to whip out the sunny-d for awhile. You get bored of it after a lil bit though, and go back to the original standby. In this case, it's the beginning of the month and you're getting your fill early. Plz not to be drinking sunny-d next week.

I would sooo look forward to that. Especially after finding out yesterday that the twitter stuff is apparently not a level.

Alas, unrealistic.

I've always thought being named Shelley and looking like Frankenstein was a great combination. His parents showed great foresight.

I tried in the past to get people to call him Mary, but it never caught on.
