there's been a lot of talk that the yankees want to get under the luxury tax threshold next year - i mean, that just seems absurd, i can't see how the yankees don't already make boatloads of money, but i guess it's possible.

i don't know if i would want swisher long-term, so if it's between that and letting him go i think they would.

I'm almost sort of excited to see how a "fiscally responsible" Yankees team would look. Would be great to win a WS with a median-range payroll and see what the haters say..."nice job, you bought yourself another, um, I mean...well, whatever. Yanks suck!"

from what i understand the yankees have been the highest in revenue, but arent actually leading the pack in terms of net profitability due to spending so much on payroll. seems to me hank and hal are pretty concerned with making some bank at this point, especially if you consider the "quietly shopping the yankees" rumors from earlier this year.

haha. given the yankees prospect base now and the contracts they have on the books, you'll have to wait another 8-10 years for that

And of course there's always the possibility they sell the team to Chicago Tribune-type owners that say "hey look, people keep coming to the ballpark and making money for us no matter how ****ty a team we throw out there. This is great!" and laugh evilly while twiddling the ends of their mustaches. I should be careful what I wish for.

Man it tilts me when Girardi plays Ibanez in the OF while DHing a good defender. Tonight it's Teix at DH, Swisher at 1B and Ibanez in LF with Ichiro in RF. I know there was the stretch with Gardner hurt where Ibanez kinda had to play left while A-Rod or Chavez DH'ed. But this like 10 games now with Ibanez in the OF and either Swisher, Jones, Granderson, or Teix is at DH when it would make way more sense to DH Ibanez.

I guess the Yanks have a big lead in the playoffs, those guys are old too and need rest, etc. But man, this is his 67th game and 59th start in the OF, make it stop

one last OF defense rant, next year can they switch Gardner and Granderson? Grandy is looking pretty brutal these days in CF
