You would think a team like the Mets would have gotten a little creative and signed good FA' s with front loaded contracts so they can have players on the cheap down the road and pay the young staff when it was their due. Sadly things can't work that way. Human nature would also create a problem there.

13M for a year isn't bad these days for a guy like Bruce.

Fatolo off to the Braves. Guess we're banking on Harvey and Wheeler coming back and fulfilling their potential for next season.

They should retire his number now. I don't care if he hits 8 HRs this year. How many other players in the history of major league baseball (of his caliber or any other) have wanted to play for the Mets so badly that they have consistently given these cheapskates favorable deals?

I was willing to go to the Mets for $1 million.

How much do you think Cespedes could get in FA?

I mean the AAV of his contract is the highest in baseball history among position players behind Miguel Cabrera.

AAV is whatever, the 4 years is the best part. He definitely could've gotten more guaranteed money in FA imo. Most of the other big pos player contracts have slightly lower AAV but go into the players late 30s or even 40s.

The number of general managers that don't understand that these are bad investments are dwindling. He may have been able to linger and get something more, but that plus the fact of a potential labor agreement conflict on Thursday if they don't come to an agreement probably necessitated that he got this done quicker.

4 years instead of 5 is a big deal. And I am sure he easily could have gotten a fifth from someone.

Mets this year look like the Mets of last year to me: good pitching, little offense.

Guess another wildcard and out in the first round is in the cards for us.

Montero has some Armando Benitez in him. Doesn't throw as hard, but tries to bite edges too much, gets too cute with the breakers, and doesn't seem to handle pressure well.

Thats said, hit the damn ball.

I guess Harvey was encouraging last night. He threw strikes and the velocity wasn't bad, but the stuff kinda looked average. Thinking the results had to do with facing the Braves under favorable conditions.

I don't think the Braves lineup is that bad (the problem is their pen), however a sabremtricians look at the game is discouraging. It's only 1 start, but I don't consider it this amazingly positive sign. It's also worth noting on a positive note that the 2 homers were really the only balls hit well.
