niese hasnt been good, and realistically figgy should be brought up

but redding is only a week or 2 away, and i think they are afraid that if figgy comes up and pitches decently, they will really lose him this time

so they bring up niese --- which i wont kill them for

Yeah, realistically Niese is only going to be with the Mets until Redding gets back. He still has options left. Plus the added bonus of having him work a couple of weeks with Warthen.

i cant think of a reason to say warthen is a good pitching coach at this point. I constantly see "if perez stays up, he gets to work with warthen" and such, but have no idea if that is good or not

Well, maybe with Niese change is good. He wasn't doing great in AAA but maybe Warthen will see something that the Buffalo coaches are missing.

Apparently, Warthen is spoken of quite highly. I am under the impression that he is a pretty good coach. He probably wouldn't have gotten this high up as a coach if he totally sucked.

As mentioned above, it is very hard to say how good or bad Warthen is doing. Though when you have the talent and it doesn't pan out, the coach is normally used as a scapegoat for the team's failings. I can see that happening this year for Warthen if the back end of the rotation continues to suck.
