Viking fans - do we want this?

Packer fans - what do you think of this?

I think we've already been discussing why this is a horrible idea in the nfl offseason thread.

Favre is a ****ing joke. He told his friends the only reason he wants to keep playing is to beat the Packers. I don't want a guy with that sole motivation to be playing the game being my QB. I'm sure the Vikings slappys will love it though.

I'm not seeing that thread on the first couple pages, so I assume it was based on speculation. If you click on the link provided in my original post, it takes you to an ESPN story updated May 5, 2009, 7:08 PM ET that says he and coach dip****, I mean Childress are going to meet at an unspecified location later this week to discuss the possibility of Favre playing for the purple.

New news imo.

As a Packer homer, it would definitely make the division the most interesting QB-wise in all of football. I'm pretty much indifferent if he does decide to play for them. I think I'd be pissed the closer it came to happening.

Not that he's played historically well in a dome, but 8+ games there will certainly help. Plus, it can't be too difficult to hand the ball to AP/CT 30 times a game. I think it would be a good move for the Vikings because Rosenfels and TJax aren't going to take them anywhere.

Normally I don't like repeating myself, but another thread to bash Favre in is just too enticing. I think it's a terrible move for Favre. This has a good chance of backfiring. Even after the stunt he pulled last year, many Packer fans would still welcome him back with open arms and his legacy would be a good one. Now, he's alienated the Packer fan base that was still with him and any chance he had of going out on good terms are gone.

For the Vikings, they get a 40 year old QB with a bad elbow who throws INT after INT, wasn't well liked by his teammates in NY after he isolated himself in a private office, and whose sole reason for coming back is revenge against Thompson and McCarthy. Sounds like a great move for them. The only good news for Vikings fans is that when it does fail miserably, Brad Childress and his whole staff will be fired.

Do people really think Rosenfels or Tarvaris is better than Favre right now? I don't really understand the problem anyone has with this move from the Vikings standpoint. He doesn't even need to be BRETT FAVRE, just be an above average QB and this team will be good.

Agree here...see 2006 Chicago Bears if any Viking fan is questioning this. Vikings time to win is now and they are already the favorite to repeat to some people. With Favre, I think that's a lock.

Unfortunately for the Jets, Favre was anything but an above average QB down the stretch last year. He chucked the ball up for grabs like he always does and if it worked, he was the greatest player to ever play the game. If it didn't work, he's a gunslinger who takes bad risks but that's ok because he plays with the enthusiasm of a little kid.

Bad elbow, bad teammate, bad decision maker. Favre 5 or 10 years ago would have helped the Vikings. Favre now will just sink them even deeper.

Go for it Vike-heads. You'll suck even worse this year with Favre than you would if you had to play Tarvaris Jackson. Except for the fact Tarvaris can scramble well, I'd say Sage Rosenfels is BY FAR your best shot at winning...

I guess he's probably equal to or slightly better than tjax or sage, but what really bothers me is the idea that we're willing to sign a veteran QB, but couldn't be bothered to go get someone like Garcia, who available as a FA, or just trade for ****ing Cutler. It's just a huge mess imo.

I don't get why 2p2 hates Favre so much. He was bad down the stretch last year with the Jets, but he was allegedly injured. He'll have a better supporting cast with the Vikings, be playing in better conditions at home, and there will just be less pressure on him in general than there was with the Jets. I don't see what the Vikings have to lose with this move. Worst case scenario we miss the playoffs, Favre retires, and Childress finally gets canned. It's totally win/win.

Personally, I think the Vikings are making a big mistake if they really do want Favre, sending Chilly to talk to him. He's going to find out in 5 minutes Chilly's a chucklehead and that he can't play for the guy. Better to send AP and Jared Allen and Zygi, have a BBQ, sign a deal and say see you at training camp!

I think Brett Favre should sign a one-week contract with every NFL team for the next two years; that way he can play for everyone. No one will get sick of him; he's BRETT ****ING FAVRE!!!

Maybe after he's done that, a major league baseball team could offer him a contract as a starting pitcher.... that way baseball fans can cream themselves over him too.

Then, some ice-skating lessons and summer workouts with Kobe Bryant.... that doesn't seem like a bad idea.

There would be much more pressure on Favre this year if he were to play for the Vikings. Last year he was taking over the 4-12 Jets in the same division as the unstoppable Patriots and nobody expected anything. Until they were 8-3 and what happened? Favre took them out of contention and he was run out of New York.

This year he'd be taking over the Vikings who won the division last year, have a great defense, and the best running back in the game. If they didn't make the playoffs, it would be a total failure. If the Vikings lost to the Packers twice, it would be a failure to Favre. When Favre goes back to Lambeau in a Viking uniform, he will be heavily booed.

Before everyone goes nuts...

...these are "reports". "Reports" <> "truth" - DUCY?

Brett Favre has stated succinctly and directly to questions text'ed to him about whether he is considering coming back to play this year - his answer was "NO." Period.

That doesn't have to mean anything, we know what Brett is capable of. LOL But we should keep these facts in mind.
