I read in other threads Amare put on 20 pounds of muscle (suppoosedly he bragged about it).
I am guessing in his infinite wisdom, he gained upper body bulk and the Knicks trainers were powerless to stop him due to lockout.
I mean, I've gained 20ish lbs of muscle several times in my life and didn't change my athleticism THAT MUCH. Even if he gained it all in his upper body and none in his legs, I don't see how that's responsible for what appears to be an astronomical decrease in his vertical. If he did have 20 lbs more of muscle you'd think he'd at least be able to box out more effectively for boards.
Just by watching him I would think the issue is more medical. Something in the leg or a knee.
Hey guys, remember when I was getting **** in this thread for saying DLee @ $11mil/yr > Amare for the max?
good times, good times
There was a good amount of value in the act of doing something that summer rather than nothing. Perception is everything and Melo might not come without that first half-season with Amare. Then again, maybe the Knicks would have been able to hang tight and wait to sign/trade for actual good players like CP3 and Dwight.

Okay, I think we need a nickname for the Knicks' 2nd unit. Any suggestions?
Speaking of nicknames, Landry Fields + Jeremy Lin + Tyson Chandler is now called "The Smart Crew".
The trio of Lin, Fields, and Chandler were introduced under their new moniker, “The Smart Crew” (or as Lasky said from time-to-time, “The Smart Triangle”), and in unison, they each donned a matching pair of dark-framed “nerd” glasses. When asked how he gained membership in “Smart Crew,” Chandler’s response drew laughs from the audience. “Well, we’ve got Harvard, Stanford, and Dominguez [High School in Compton, California].”
Most importantly, they appear to have wonderful team chemistry and they convincingly expressed their commitment to winning.
I just came up with a nickname for the Knicks bench.
Jeremy Lin and Steve Novak literally were "replacements" as they were passed over by many NBA teams. And it's kind of ironic, as the Knicks bench aren't comprised of mere "replacements", they're damn good players.
and yes I know there's a football movie with the same name, starring Keanu Reeves, which I am a big fan of.
Edit: Wow just came across this song. It's crazy delicious:
