That's not what you said. Hell, I certainly don't trust our defense in a tight spot. That doesn't mean I don't trust this team to go deep in the playoffs. You said that the Pats likely won't go deep in the playoffs because of the defense. I wanted to know how you explain that stance given the success they've had in the regular season with the same teams that they'll likely face in the playoffs. That's all. If you can't explain yourself, so be it. Just admit it though. Don't make the argument about something else.

If you just take the anymore out of that sentence, you'd be approaching a correct statement.

I'll chalk this up to a victory. Just don't spout off again about how the Pats somehow can't win in the playoffs when they've clearly demonstrated they can beat the same teams in the regular season.

Not sure what makes me an idiot in this whole thing. You do know what that word means, right? I certainly don't keep score I've just learned that when people refuse to argue about a statement they themselves made when faced with opposition, they have realized they were wrong to make that statement, but are just to bull headed to admit it. You sir, have taken that course.

So, just don't make the statement again and you'll be fine.

Seems like a good idea given that you're not capable of arguing on the level that I am. It will just frustrate you in the end.

Good luck in your future endeavors Toro.

Heh, I didn't even mention the injuries, esp Chung, who has been our DMVP.

And if I forgot to mention BUF's home-ice advantage, that bears mentioning as well. It's not easy to win on the road in this league. Just ask everyone who laid points yesterday with NE, DET (won vs a winless team but it sure wasn't easy, and they didn't cover), NYJ, and ARI.

(GB was lucky to cover on the road, too, as the Bears scored a backdoor special teams TD in the final minute that was negated by a penalty flag.)

I can't fault a defender for not thinking of that on a play that started a million miles from the goal line.

BTW, I heard an interview with the BUF RB who made that play, he said they'd been working on that play all week, it was designed specifically to counter a certain blitz they noticed the Pats doing. Former Harvard Quarterback FitzWhatsHisName recognized that particular blitz coming, audibled to that play, and it worked like a charm.

Thought that was interesting. Who's coaching BUF nowadays? Between that story, and the gutsy 4th-and-14 call early on, I like him!

patriots lost as a ~7pt favorite on the road to a team obviously better than most people thought. there were weird drops, questionable calls and flukey INT's. it happens. the defense is a weak link, but if anyone doesn't think they are one of the top 3 teams most likely to win the SB they are silly. sorry.

The Bills weren't any better than I expected them to be. I think they were completely outclassed by New England yesterday.

At halftime, NE was up 21-10, "And it's not as close as the score would indicate."

After the final whistle, BUF won by three, and the score STILL didn't indicate how badly they were outclassed. When these two teams meet again, I'll lay a double-digit point spread with relish.

annnnnnnnnnnnnd according to pinny the patriots are ~30% to win the AFC, while the next closest team is ~16%

people in this thread are probably sharper than pinny though and the patriots probably wont win a playoff game.

i cant wait till the archaic notion that "defense" wins in the playoffs is put to bed across the board. you know what wins in the playoffs? scoring more points than your opponent.

That's what I've been trying to tell these people. Don't know what Toro was talking about.

Well there's being able to win a championship with a less-than-stellar defense these days, and then there's trying to win one with whatever you call what the Pats are trotting out there right now.

I suppose it's possible to win a SB with a lolbad 31st-ranked defense as long as they're prepared to put up 35+ a game each and every game for the rest of the season.

Vegas recognizes what I've been saying: Instead of over-unders in the usual 35-42 (with an occasional 44 or 45, and the anticipated high-scoring affairs seeing a 48 or 49), look at this week's lines,

http://www.scoresandodds.com/grid_20111002.html

Cliff Notes: 44-45 is the default number nowadays, Pats have been low-to-mid 50's last few weeks.

Don't forget, we're not going to be playing against high-flying teams like BUF and SD every week (and this OAK team has been scoring a ton of points, too). If we give up 24+ to KC on 11/21, I'll start worrying along with you guys.

(MAN, we've got a tough schedule this year!)

Would have been a great win except for the Mayo injury

Just a huge loss if it's severe.
